Anyone on here a Comand SATNAV expert??!

Anyone on here a Comand SATNAV expert??!
Ok - once upon a time my SATNAV worked. It then had disc read errors so would not read the CD and at times didnt even eject the CD. I true MB style rather than repair the laser they replaced the whole unit. Great I thought - I get a whole new SATNAV out of it under warrenty. Great until the car came back with teh sat nav not working.
It pickes up 7\8 sats yet hasnt got a clue where I am located and takes approx 3 mins to update the location of my car on the screen. its useless. SO - back I go to Merc and they say the head unit is duff and replace it again. All fixed they said. er NOT - exactly the same issue.
Whilst up in Scotland MB plug the car into Star Diag and say that its got a D2B error and is not picking up a speed pulse from the TCU.
So back I go again. They get all the wiring diagrams and experts etc looking at it and eventually come back saying that the head unit has the wrong software version on it. They order another head unit from germany - its been 2 weeks now waiting for the head unit and still waiting.
My question is - can this REALLY be down to software on the Comand unit? Surely Star Diag is trying to say that the link (canbus maybe) between the comand and the TCU is the issue?
Just in case it matters I have a 2000 CL500.
Was there some sort of difference between comand units in 2000 CL's and those in say a 2002 model? I thought they were all the saem until 2004\2005 when they went wide screen!??!
I'd feel alot more at ease with what the dealer is saying if I had an expert on here confirming there not barking up the wrong tree
