CL500 Engine Manegement Light

As said my mate bought a 500 last week and now the engine light is on, 53k on the clock?????

Would this be cause a service is needed or what else could it be????

It also says service A overdue by 236 days....

This guy bought it on a whim... fool....

2 separate issues. The Check Engine Light is because there is a fault somewhere. I would plug the car into an OBD tool to find out what the code is that's triggering the light. Some auto parts stores let you use their tool for free to pull codes.

The Service A notification is for maintenance. The car will need an "A" service which consists of an oil change and a bunch of vehicle checks. Do a search on "FSS" or "Service A" for details.

The Check Engine is more than likely an O2 Sensor thats failed.
The car has several of them in the system.

Engien Light - I would NOT say O2 sensor straight away - in fact it could be ignition HT leads, ignition coil packs or MAF sensor - then I would investigate o2 sensor.

Do in order above due to least cost to most cost:

ignition HT leads £20 each
ignition coil packs £100 each
MAP sensor (MB part) £250 (OEM) £100

I have spare ignition coil packs for £40 each if that helps but I'm in the UK. All coil packs are the same part number on the 500 model.

I also have a boxed new MAF sensor (OEM) you can have for £50.

Where do you get them from for so cheap? I had the same problem so I had to replace 2 O2 censors and the MAF it cost me $600.
