Rear Brake Replacement

Has anyone replaced their own brakes? Can someone guide me through the process? I am afraid that when I take out the pads the piston will contract and I wont be able to put the new pads in. If that happense how do it expand them? I have chaged a lot of brakes on hondas, fords and other cars like that, but when I took the tire off it look too complicated so I put the tire back on. Can someone help?

Let's start by calling them brakes....and I would assume the brakes would be very similar to those on other cars, just bigger and more sensors to remember to plug back in.

Hey Bo. I've done the brakes on my CL and on other cars. IMO, the CL was the easiest i've ever done, seriously. You don't even have to remove the caliper bolt, just a pin (2 in front) and pull the pads back with a wrench and then pull the pad right out of the side.

Here is a post from fellow forum member fkong777 in the W220 board:
https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...tructions.html

Scroll down to post#13 and go from there. Very detailed pics on a W220 (same as ours).

Good luck and trust me, it's real easy.

these are the easiest brakes to change out of all the cars i have done. it took me longer to take out and to put back the tire then to replace the brakes. thanks for the info.
