Do you know how often I have to replace it? Could I do it myself or should it be done by a proffesional?

You can do it yourself. All you need is the filter, some hose clamps, basic tools and a low profile bucket to catch the fuel. The existing hose clamps are the OEM kind that requires a tool to re-apply. You'll end up buying the screw type clamps.

It's recommended every 5 years. I do mine every 4.

The fuel filter is located under the car, in front of the rear wheel well, driver's side. If I recall correctly, the fuel pump is in the same location as well. Hope that helps isolate the spot.

Basically jack the car up, remove the under body cover in that area and the fuel filter will be right there staring at you. Pry off the old hose clamps, remove the filter and be prepared to shower in fuel. The first second is the most because of the pressure. After that, it just drips. Replace with a new filter and apply hose clamps. Start the car (will crank a bit longer for the first time) and check for leaks. Close and clean up.
