Best Radar Detector Placement

What is the best place to install my new 9500i on a Mercedes 2002 CL500. This car has a infrared reflecting glass. Does it matter where I put it? The manufacturer tells me to put in low on the windshield, but I do not know if they put the infrared reflecting glass into acount.

For radar detectors and toll tags, you must mount them to the left or right of the rain sensor, at the very top of the windshield. It's the area that has the black dots on it.

there is a designated area toward the passenger seat that has a blank spot in the window film. That would be best no?

Can anyone provide pictures as to where the designated "safe zones" are on the windshield?

I've been talking with someone from escort and they told me the area on the bottom right would be the best place to detect laser and that you do not want to put it behind the area with the black shaded area. It just looks odd and is not practical in this place.

In the manual it says where you can place it. Its on page 215 of my manual.

Its a little to the left of the Rear View Mirror. Below the black dots and 1-2 inch more to the left.

I just referred to my manual, and I feel like the picture is a little vague. I'm not sure if the spots where you can place it is EXACTLY where it is labeled "1". Rather, my interpretation of it was that the locations are located on the dot-matrix, and they labeled it slightly off to the side so you could see. The same goes for the label "2", it's located off to the side so you can see where to place it.

Well, I had no Idea that "1" was also usable. I was only aware of the "5" from my own visible point of view. I have a fully tinted windshield so it became easier to notice but I will have to look again now.

Regarding the placement of toll collecting devices, the only place I found it to work with the FLorida Turnpike device is in the black area. I was told by the turnpike authorities that I would probably have to mount it in the grill when I couldn't get it to work, which I never did. Later someone there told me to install it in the black area which I tried and have had no problems since.

Same here for EZPass in NJ. I have the right position occupied by my toll tag and the left one for the occasional radar detector use on long trips. They both work great in the dotted black area.

What I don't understand is how the radar detector could have optimal detection behind the dot-matrix? It seems like it's completely blacked out and I can't see how you could get any detection from behind it.

I don't know man; the radar detector seems to works fine for me. I only use it once or twice a year though for road trips and use a clip mount like Chauss. It probably works in that area for the same reason the toll tags work there; no IR reflecting material in the glass. Is it the best spot for coverage? I don't know as I haven't done a side-by-side test with a radar gun.

To be on the safe side, mount it where you're most comfortable.

I mounted my V1 today in the odd-shaped rectangle, labeled "2". Detection is excellent and power cord rests nicely on the dash down to the cigarette lighter. I don't think I'll be hardwiring just because I love the way it looks now.

You do Realize that is absolutely useless right? Not because it works or wont work, but why the **** would you need to test for laser? Radar should be the only of your worries and you'll need a friend on the force to test for that. I'll set up a day where my buddy can use his gun while on his "lunch break" for that test.

If you worry about laser, get a laser jammer. V1 should only be used to worry about Radar because you can't Jam radar. Once you get hit with a Laser, no matter HOW you detect it, game over.

Buy a K40, I have that now and I'll add a V1 soon for radar. K40 has saved me 4 times and all 4 I was doing 20 over.

I was passing a cop car and the radar didnt go off from the front, the 2nd I passed it it went off with rear lights...so I had my doubts..
