The CD changer is part of a fiber optic ring network. When you remove an item, you need to ensure that the ring is not open, otherwise none of the components on the ring will work. Make sure everything is connected as before, including the CD changer. My guess is the ring is disconnected somewhere when you removed the CD changer. Good luck

I had a fiber optic issue as well. It was with the blue tooth. The music would cut off and I would hear nothing. They fixed the problem by doing something with the fiber optic and the telephone.

The other choice is to get a bridging coupler from the dealer to connect the fiber cables to restore the ring.

i know it's not a CL. but in my mom old W220 s class, similar to the CL. she sound went out and, the command system said no CD changer detected. I just unhooked the battery for 10 min or how ever long it took to drink a beer, hooked it back up and it was fixed.
just food for thought, especially with all the possible electrical bugs, try the good old battery disconnect.
