Good idea to buy a 2001 cl 500? 62k miles
Hi, i was wondering if it would be a good purchase on my part to buy an 01 cl 500. The reason im asking is b/c i heard these cars run into a lot of electrical problems and whatnot. I'm a college student so i dont think i'd have a lot of money on hand to pay every so often.
Since it is under 100k miles, would the warranty cover it?
Thx,
Dan

For starters, I doubt the car would come with any kind of warranty which means you have to spend $4-5k to obtain one. Further, you are right that these cars have their share of electrical problems. They are also are extremely expensive to maintain ( according to one survey, they are in the top 10 most expensive to do so. Unless you have deep pockets, stay away and get something you can afford.

IMHO, get a 2002 CLK430 (v8 power, bullet proof engine).
It was the last year of that particular body style. All the issues were resolved, and it was a dependable daily driver. I had one for a long time, loved it. Although i had a 320. Plus it's doesn't have all the gizmos so lack of electrical bugs to deal with. You can easily upgrade the intake, exhaust, stereo and customize it.
