Fuel Injector

Do I need to have it cleaned? If so, in about how many miles?

I don't know what the recommendation is, so I can only give you my experience. I had mine cleaned at ~48,000 mi, and it really smoothed out the idle. I suspect quality of gas (detergents) has a lot to do with it.

Unless MB has different types of injectors than those of American engineering, they shouldn't have to be cleaned unless their is a specific problem with them. I have never had injectors cleaned on any of my cars and they all ran great. I had an '84 Vette with over 200k on the odometer, and now have a '91 Lincoln with 175K on it and my daughter has a '97 Jeep with 275K on it. I've never had those in my '02 CL500 cleaned although it has just 35K on it. I think when injectors first came out, gasoline was not ready for them and caused them to need cleaning. Today's fuels contain additives that do the cleaning. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Thanks Jud. I didn't realize that. I was thinking that my fuel injector needed to be replaced because of the constant check engine light. I figured maybe that I was getting bad gasoline at the local gas stations despite it being a 93 anti-knock rating. I'm debating on changing it, but your input definitely helps me reconsider.

I would have the check engine light diagnosed before replacing any parts. Have a tech pull the fault code(s) to determine the problem and go from there.
