alternator replacement
has anyone ever replace the alternator yourself
my alternator is giving up i order a new one already

Wease, I thought you had the Star Service Manual Library for the W215. This DVD shows how to swap it out among many other jobs. If you don't have it, yu can order it by calling MB at 800 for-merc. Good luck.

I do have but it but the DVD software support windows XP I have windows 7
I guess I'm going to order a new one

i do have it but it does not support windows 7 it only support windows XP

The job of removing the alternator should be straight forward.

You will have to remove all the nearby components, such as the windshield washer reservoir, air pump, fan shroud, v-belt and nearby pipes, hoses, electrical connectors and cables in order to easily access the alternator.

Then remove the 3 bolts holding the alternator in place and remove. You may want to inspect the flange gasket at this time.

Install in reverse order and then re-connect the other components.

flange gasket WHERE IS THAT LOCATED AT AND WHAT IS IT?

The flange is the rim piece that the alternator is attached to. It will have the bored holes in it and the gasket rests on the flange before re-installing the alternator.

If they don't know...don't worry about it...also, if after removing the alternator and you have a gasket, you can show it to them.

The gasket will be a piece of fibreboard that is shaped like the alternator flange.

is that flange the by the pully or the back side where the wire hook up

There is only ONE flange for the alternator.
It is on the engine block for the back end of the alternator to be bolted to.

The gasket is for the 600 engine, so don't worry about it.
