It can go either way, just make sure it's all the way up. There should be a small pictured instruction paper in the box indicating you should only see one line when properly installed. Be sure to change all the o-rings.

Good article! The only thing I would add is I would not start the car for at least 1/2 hour after finishing the job allowing the oil to work its way back into oil pump. I read this tip some time ago and in following it, I notice that the low oil pressure light is on about the same amount of time as normal start up. It stays on for several seconds after starting immediately following an oil change.

hey, when I changed the oil filter I could only locate 3 O rings (2003 cl500) but on the filter came with 4...am I missing one?

there is a very small one at the bottom of the filter assembly, then a medium sized one a little higher up and a large one around the housing cap.

please give me your advice.

thanks!

I believe the filter is for several different models and the CL only takes 3 of the 4 o-rings. Save the extra one though, as you never know when you might need it for something else.
