Here is where I get some of my MB parts:

They have good prices and free shipping on orders over $50.

This is a great idea. Might not be as good as a full flush, but it might be gradual enough and safe enough to clean it up and extend the life without upsetting the entire apple cart.

Jud, thanks for the source.

Retail is MSRP, they over charged him plain and simple. There is some mark-up but dealers shouldn't take advantage of customers. I would raise hell anyway. As for fluid they have a new fluid which is synthetic instead of it being made from special soy bean oil extracts. At least the one I bought is from a metal can Q-1-32-0001 price MSRP is 32.00 I paid 24.60 and you can find it even cheaper on line. I think the one is the plastic bottle is older but I could have it backwards. I just know it said synthetic on the can. Who knows it might be the same stuff in a different packaging. VIP German auto parts www.vipgermanparts.com You have to really know how to navigate through it. Funny thing for me is they are just up the street about a mile, so I do customer pick up and I have a resale number and don't pay tax. As for your Nav CD get it straight from NavTech. 295.00 I think. They supply them to every car manufacturer including MBZ. I have bought 3 and There is NOTHING different, nothing changed only if they have built new roads or put up new Gas stations in the 18 months of change, if you want I have a NEW in the box update for the 2006 version (which the woman has a different voice). I bought it the same time off Ebay for 125.00 shipped and then bought the 2010 version and was so angry because NOTHING changed. It was a waste of my money.. We haven't had any road construction or gas station changeds or new Hospitals in 10 years here plus I do not take my cars on the freeway except for car shows. Now my 04 was a different voice and had different visuals. I wont buy another until 2014. No enough bang for the buck. Yours would be a major upgrade because it works on the 05-08 cars, 2004-2006 CL, 2006-2008 SL 2006 CLS, 2004-2006 S Class and had major changes. The 06 version would be the one you would want 125.00 shipped, Let me know it didn't change from there because they moved on with the technology in 2007 As for AutoHausz they are a retailer for ALL brands and dont quite have all original MBZ parts. I tried them and they just do not have everything you would want. Know the part number and you can get it for much cheaper from VIPGERMAN and get only MBZ OEM parts

Regarding changing the ABC filter, I also syphon one liter of the fluid out every year or so which will tend to keep it fresh. It's very simple. Just remove the dip stick and insert a CLEAN clear hose into the reservoir as far down as possible. Then suck the fluid up and out until gravity takes over and let it flow into a liter clear cup on the floor. When done, just add one liter of fresh fluid to the reservoir and you're done. The job make take 15 minutes at the most. You could do it much more often if your fluid is dark. My fluid now is close to looking new in color. I don't pull the fluid out of the filter cap area as it is to messy.

I liter will barely do 1/2 of one of the reservoir. What I would do for BOTH the PS pump reservoir and trhe ABC reservoir is I would syphon them both until they are both empty. Measure what you took out of both and buy just that amount in the containers they sell at MBZ and it will make it completely fresh all except for what is in the system, It should freshen it pretty well and in about 6 months do it once more and I bet all the system should have fresh fluid. Then you don't have to Rodeo the car to bleed the system. Just my thoughts, yours is very smart. That is how I do my brakes on all my old cars reservoirs.

The MBZ guy told me that the height sensor may have been out of range but when he put it on the Star system nothing showed up and I haven't seen the light before or since. Sometimes he said the sensors go wonky for No reason esp. if the car sits for a very long time, mine hadnt been filled since May of 2011 until I drove out the last bit in Jan 2012. That was why I asked about height sensor. It didn't make sense to me either so I just wrote it off as just a little glitch that fixed itself.
To clarify. The sensors/system learns over time within limits. The codes come up if you let the car sit. Then when you start driving again the previous code is stored but there is no fault. The abc tends to correct itself if you keep pushing the right buttons. Respectfully, the CL systems are quite clever and not wonky if one digs deeper. I respect the amount of info you have and your rhetoric informed by facts and logic.

The car is at the dealer today. I told him it was sold to me with a pirated disc, which I recently discovered. I am shopping one local dealer against another. If they tell me I need a disk, I will get back with you.

I have the web site for NAVTEQ: http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...gationMenu=YES

And this is the description of the disc for my car:

Mercedes-Benz Harman Becker COMAND - North America Map DVD v.10
Catalog # U0028-0070-009

The quote is $249.00. Is your extra disc compatible for sure?

I switched out the ABC filter and the Power Steering filter. Much, much easier job than expected based on the schematics. All you have to do is push the spring up from the bottom and unhook it. Then reverse. The top gasket on the ABC filter needs replacing, so I picked it up yesterday along with a new seal and will put them on tonight.

Found out the lubricant/fluid in the ABC and Power Steering reservoirs are the same, so I'm going to start sucking out the old and replacing it with new, to get the systems transfused in a non-traumatic way. (Both for me and the car).

OOPS! Just had an ABC scare. I have just switched out the filters in the Power Steering Unit and the ABC Reservoir and topped off the fluids with new Pentosin from the dealer. Recently lowered with links. No prior problems. Driving like a dream.....then.....

3 minutes after start up the computer, in huge red letters, said something like ABC SYSTEM - DRIVE CAREFULLY. No other info. No warning to get to the dealer. But it was rigid. No play in the system. I turned right around and came back and parked it. Went in the house and stressed. Got back in it this afternoon for a test drive. Everything is perfect. Back to normal. So WTF? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I knew I should have left it alone until it broke!

Hey Guys, I need a little help here. I have a chance to buy a 04 CL500 with 44K . The car was under warranty until recently and appears to have no problems. The owner says that the car sat down when it had miles in the 30"s and that the dealer did a flush and replaced all the filters with no problems since. I love these cars, but they honestly scare me. Any thoughts ? ..... Also anything esle that I should consider before I I move foward with a purchase. Thanks

the ABC system CAN be expensive to maintain. I bought mine with 37k on the clock, I'm at almost 60- so far, so good. No warning lights, etc. Drives like a dream. The pump was replaced on mine before I bought it. Most '04 MY 500's I've seen have had the pump replaced by 40k. Do you happen to know if this one has had the pump replaced? If not, I'd prob be afraid it's gonna blow. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks, I'm not sure. If it's just the pump what are we talking about $$ wise. Ive got a great mechanic and can get parts from the dealer wholesale.

the dealer left all the service records in the glove box on mine. the previous owner only paid $1500 to have the pump replaced. price for the pump was $1000 ($1125 total for parts). this was done at the local M/B dealer in '08. I've seen people pay twice, even 3 times that much I guess it depends where u go

the valve blocks are expensive, but they can (usually) be taken apart & cleaned (maybe replace an o-ring). the struts are a couple grand apiece, but I have rarely heard of problems with these. The entire system can become contaminated with small pieces of metal if there's a blowout/catastrophic system failure. A good shop will flush all that out before major repairs.

Thanks Guys. I did find out that the front block valve was replaced at 33k, but not the pump. For grins I priced out some parts at the Dealership with a wholesale discount (15 to 20 percent). ABC pump $1360 + fuild and filters $280, block valve $1350, front struts $1350, rear struts $1120 and of course any labor. Again the car has 33k on it and everything is good for now.....am I being too paraniod ? When do these ABC problems typically appear ?

Pump had a leaking seal which necessitated replacement as well as a full blown flush.
