Looks good, what size/offsets are those?

Offset

I think offset is 43 but I don't remember if that's rear only or for front as well.

Since the rims are staggered, I think that's rear but someone more knowledgable can guide you better.

Tires are 255/35 20 front & 275/35 20 rear (all Continental Contisport 2 oem's)

Offsets are probably similar (around 40 or 43) but the widths are different front and rear. hence different tire size.

If you buy a CL55 just leave the AMG wheels on it and worry about the tires and the alignment. One cannot buy better wheels than AMG wheels. If there were better wheels AMG would put them on the car.

Put your money into regular services and extra services, such as changing the fluids regularly.

You'll love a CL55 04-06!

If you can find a Capri Blue one I envy you!

I've wanted to have 255/35/20 and 275/35/20 combination (desired for W216 and W221) on W215 but wonder if they would cause any issues with odometers, ABC, rubbings, or anything? Did you lower your car? Any problems with that combination at all? Any pictures? TIA

Offset numbers for the CL65 are to be found here on MBW. Look around, it's been covered before.

Problem is, unless you want a wheel/tire sticking out, you really will have a hard time finding anything wider for it. Not much room between the back of the stock wheel and suspension components, so you'll have to go with a lesser offset... which will make your wheels stick out.

For the record, I don't recommend it, but you can likely get away with a 285 tire on the stock 9.5 inch wheel, but it will throw off your speedometer by 1%. So at say, 60, you'll actually be going 60.6mph.

I had the same concerns prior to putting these rims on a few months ago. I consulted a bunch of people, including the Mercedes Service Advisor (who is a fellow car nut) and several Benz techs before mounting the rims.

Ok, for the record, my car is not lowered & has rubbed a total of 3 or 4 times since I put the S65 20" AMG rims on it. The rubs occured when the car is travelling at a relatively faster speed than the posted speed limit and the road surface has a series of undulations/gyrations that not only throw the car up and down but the passengers within the cabin as well. I don't know how best I can describe it but imagine a wave pattern up and down repeatedly in the road. Think about a sin/cosin wave from algebra.

As for the odo, I doubt mine's off. Too many tickets say otherwise.

As for the ABC, gosh, I wish these high end Benzes didn't have that. Without ABC, I could forsee keeping it forever. Thus far, I have had the front valve block, hoses, both front struts replaced in the last 5 months and they've billed my extended warranty company $19k for this and other minor repairs. Without the warranty, I would've been very disappointed and thoroughly pissed.

I have been fortunate to have owned various types of cars in my short life and although this may sound crazy, this is my daily driver (except during snow season) and I truly love it. Each car (Audi, Lexus and the CL) has its own charm and its place in my stable, but I seem to gravitate to this one more than others. Best of luck to you.

Regards,
HSS

I will contribute to this thread. These are Brabus Monoblock III's 20x9.5 all around, pretty old wheels, but they are classic.

And these I had on for kicks. MAE's crown jewels.

I've had the same experience with knock-off AMG wheels on my CL. Got rid of them long ago and will only use authentic AMG stuff from now on. I'm waiting for some new tires right now but I'll post my pics up when I get my new setup.

You can't use an adapter unless it's very thick and has enough depth to hold the new bolts securely and that's just not practical (you would have to have a very high offset wheel with a narrow width to make it work). The more correct answer to this scenario is to have the alpina wheels re-drilled with the 5x112 bolt pattern and welded with new collars, but that still doesn't address the issues of offsets and width on the CL vs. the 7-series. The best thing to do would be sell the alpinas and buy some wheels made for the car.

Those are replica "AMG style" wheels, available from tirerack.com for example. Notice the absence of the logo around the lug nuts or on the spokes. They do look really great on the CL, I have some photos saved of them... they may be yours judging from the blur. They seem to be sticking out past the fenders in that photo?

Yes, they are mine, and they are sticking out! Great eyes, it is the rims spacers which are retarded, need to fix them this week. Past owner never noticed it I guess..

I hope he did not add spacers for brake clearance... and I hope they are not the wrong offset (that must be a relatively low offset with a lip like that). The good news is that those wheels aren't very expensive to replace if you just need to replace a pair. Like I said, check out tirerack for their recommended fitment and compare it with what you've got and you should get some quick answers.
