makes me slightly paranoid as my rear door speakers have never worked properly, hopefully it was just user error

Crazy!
Your speakers probably don't work correctly due to the wires going to the door not being long enough and fraying...open up rubber boot at the meeting of the door to the body and take a look at the wires. More than likely they are badly frayed.

I have the same problem, both rear door speakers don't work, i checked the door harnesses, I even replaced the amp, still nothing.
I guess the only thing left is to remove the hole door panels, I really don't want to get into that project, so am bummed out.

im with you on that slonar, besides the fact that i have taken the door panel off and still couldn't see the problem. guess its nice to have a backup bose amp? lol i dont think im ever going to need it but i thought the amp was my problem because my subwoofers weren't working either

I thought that maybe the head unit was in some kind protection mode, I searched for a way to reset or even diagnose the unit but didn't anything.
This sucks, every single thing on my car is perfect exept this, realy frustating

if you hold mute 1 and 3 on the dialpad at the same time eventually a diagnostics screen will come up and you can reset the entire bose system that way to no avail. when my subs are hitting hard and the upper eq is fully turned up sometimes the rear speakers will make a distorted noise so i know its a bad connection in the wire somewhere, trying to eliminate possibilities as to where at this point

hey slonar i don't remember if we discussed this already but i figured out the rear speaker magnets were blown. my wiring was good and when i took the speakers to a audio shop they got no resistance when they tested it. replaced the rear ones with some aftermarket speakers of the same size and i was good to go!
