Auto shifter surround...
Anyone know how to keep the automatic shifter surround bezel from moving? I have a MY'03 CL500 and the surround on it keeps pooping up and moving. It doesn't lock down. I had my local dealership try to fix it, but they had it stay down for about a day or two and it began popping back up. It is a bit annoying not what I call a good indicator of what a Merc should have for Fit and Finish. It seems to use two plastic loops to "snap" down, but the loops are either broken or have deformed and won't snap in anymore. Thought it would be a simple item to fix, but the electrical connector for Comfort or Sport shifting keeps me from just tinkering with it.

Just put two tiny drops of high temp super glue. Remember you just want the smallest amount so that it will be easy to disassemble later if needed.

Thanks for the advice, but was hoping for something that won't mar or cause a crack in the surround. If I just add a very tiny amount so that it can with some force come back apart, it might do, but I think that is what the dealership tried and did not last long. Also, not sure exactly where to put the glue so it won't hurt any electronics or the surround itself. Is this issue commonplace on our cars? Asking, because the design seems kinda shotty in comparison with the rest of the car. Maybe a design leftover from Chrysler?

My w203 had this problem after some transmission work at the dealer. They also attempted to repair but it did not last. For it to last you have to use appropiate adhesive (I used high temp super glue) and apply it to points of good contact.
The design is not very rugged and I imagine breaking or bending of the tabs is common if taken apart.
Other way to fix is to order a new part but trim pieces are usually very expensive.
