W215 2003 CL600 True Horsepower & Torque

Hello All,

I hope everyone is enjoying a great day. I have seen this subject discussed in threads on this forum in the past. The true horsepower of the 2003 CL600. The M275 engine was used from the Debut 2003 Maybach 57, and most specs are identical.

Engine Cylinders: 12
Engine Position: Front
Displacement: 5.5L
Valve-train: 3 valves / cylinder, SOHC
Compression Ratio: 9.0:1
Engine Bore: 82mm
Engine Stroke: 87mm
Fuel Feed: Fuel Injection
Aspiration: Bi-Turbo

The only areas where the specs are different are on paper.

2003 CL600 - 493 bhp / 367 KW @ 5000rpm
800 Nm / 590 ft lbs @ 1800 rpm

2003 Maybach 57 - 543 bhp / 404 KW @ 5250rpm
900 Nm / 664 ft lbs @ 2300rpm

I own a 2003 CL600 that has the Eurocharged ECU flash done by John at Broadway Performance. This car is not 500 bhp! It’s lightning fast and dead quiet. No sound at idle or at 170 mph. I just purchased a 2014 Jeep SRT, specs state 4.5 seconds 0-60. I have done a 0-60 run using the launch control setting and ran 4.56 seconds. The CL makes the SRT feel like it’s standing still. So here is my question:

Is the true horsepower of the W215 CL600, (at least the 2003 year) the same as the 2003 Maybach 57 at 543bhp, and what is the real horsepower and torque numbers, and top speed after the Eurocharged ECU Flash?

Best regards to all,

Anthony

I've been wondering this for a while. What I've read here is that the V12TT engines have different boost levels:

CL 600 5.5 - 1.0 bar - 493bhp
Maybach 5.5 - 1.2bar - 543bhp
AMG CL65 6.0 - 1.5bar - 612bhp

However, from what I can tell, the 600's generally achieve the same power and torque as the Maybach, so I suspect it may not be detuned after all, as Mercedes always claimed.

Alternatively, it could be that Mercedes use test standards that state an engine has to develop a constant level of power over a period of time, and 493bhp may be what you get when its heat-soaked. Dyno runs and 1/4 miles don't take long, so the short term power may genuinely be higher for all cars.

During a discussion with Kleeman (inquiring about a tune), they told me the stock HP was more like 540, and that was the reason you see such big gains (in numbers) after a tune because the actual base line is higher.
