Keyless go question CL600

hey guys - I have an 03 CL600 with keyless go. I have two of the credit card sized keys and one had dead batteries. (the other works perfect) Upon putting in new batteries in the one that was dead, it does not work. I was at the dealer for an unrelated issue and asked the service advisor if he could reporogram that one for me. He told me that he was pretty sure I needed to buy another and it could not be programmed if out of sync.

Is this true? I did not follow more into it at the dealer as I wanted to KNOW for sure what the facts are first. Whats the deal? thanks

Upon putting the new batteries, does the card lights up the little diode lamp ? If the card is good and is not synced (or the vehicle is out of range) it should light up red.If it does light up i am 100 % sure that it can be reprogrammed.I personally got my SL with only one keyless go card and bought another one off of ebay for 15 usd and had it reprogrammed on a star diagnosis.Any knowledgable indy can do that for you.Just find a good mechanic with star and if for some reason your card is busted and can not be reprogrammed you can buy one from ebay like this one :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-B...item461451fe82

They are the same for W220 (S),W215(CL) and R230 (SL)
Hope that helps

I could be wrong but I on my star it says you need some green chip thing to program keys. I think only the dealer has these.

Do you know how to do it. I kept trying it on mine but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Why would it be any easier for the smart cards vs keys?

I have done it only once and i unfortunately dont have a star machine handy I think i did it by entering the keyless module and then control unit adaptations. There as far back as i remember was a list of the keyless tracks which are synced.I think you will find either there or in the eis module.I have no idea why KG cards are easier to sync.Btw if your car is later than 2006-7 you will have the keyless function integrated in the smart key and that will be impossible to program by just star.Let me know if i can help further.

It weird that in that ebay listing it even says dealer can not program.

The seller said so in the listing, because dealers,or at least some of them are refusing to reassign used keyless go cards. They only sync brand new cards, purchased by them.

Have a read here :
http://bayhas.com/mercedes/cl215/con...key_assign.htm

Personally i've never done it this way.But it may work since its a MB service procedure. If you have already purchased a KG card, and there are no good indies in your area, you can try the above mentioned procedures - they will do no harm.If you're not successful, then getting to a good indy with a Star Machine should be able to do the job
Good luck
