Abc accumulators

Well last night I get in my car and drive away, I notice a humming or groaning noise that changes pitch when i rev the engine. I get home a couple hours later and research the issue. Looks like i need a new accumulator or both replaced (assuming there 2, 1 front and back).

Does anyone know of a source to get them?

There's 4, generally only two go bad. Not sure which ones. I went to the dealership, part is not that much. I think I spent 199.99 for one and change it myself.

After more research, I see thats parts.com has them for $160. I guess I'll replace the two common ones then go have the system flushed and rodeoed.

The CL has 4 accumulators, not 2 & based on what I've read, the left front failed the most. Mine left front also failed but I went ahead & replaced all 4 recently since I've already bought the parts. It's a few hours job & no need to perform a rodeo as it's a closed loop system.

Ok, Im confused about the flushing. A local indi wants $600 to flush, scan then rodeo the system. I'm wondering if I should just replace the accumulators myself and forego the flushing for now.

If you have a ruptured accumulator, chances are you will have a ton on debris in the system from the ruptured diaphragm.

I would recommend a flush with filter replacement as per MB service protocols.

You can do the flushing yourself. It's very easy. Get a bucket & an 1/2" clear hose so you can see the dirty fluid. It took me 20 min to do both ABC & power steering. You'll need 6.5 cans of Pentosin CHF 11s (5.3 for ABC & 1.1 for ps) + 2 new filters. For the ABC, disconnect the black rubber hose where it's connected to the ABC cap/filter then connect it to the clear hose. Get 5 cans ready & punch a hole on top of the can in each one to let the air in so the fluid can come out faster from the can. Have someone start the engine & raise the up/down button while you fill the reservoir with new fluid.
CAUTION: Make sure to never let the reservoir running dry because you'll introduce air into the system.
For the power steering, jack the front up so both wheels are off the ground. Disconnect the ps hose at the cap/filter & hookup your clear hose to it. No need to start the car. Have someone in the car turn the steering wheel all the way left then right & repeat the process while you fill the reservoir. Use the same caution above. Don't forget to replace both filters w/ new ones then top it off then you're done. That's all there is to it. Good luck & enjoy.

The pulsation damper and front left accumulator are the same part number and are the two that usually fail. They are the larger ones. Both of mine were ruptured. I went ahead and replaced all four though. Total cost for all four was a little over $600 and add the Pentosin so it was closer to $700. I had bought the big jug of it. It was nice not to hear that annoying drone anymore once they were replaced.

The pulsation damper accumulator & the front left accumulator are not the same part. The front left & the right rear close to the right muffler are the same accumulators. I've just replaced all 4 last month. They're pretty easy to replace except the right rear where you have to drop the muffler to make room to remove.

Pardon my misinformation. So many have referred to reservoir as a dampener.

Wow, thanks. Doesnt the vehicle need the rodeo done after flushing though? I can definitely flush the system myself then but not rodeo it.

There are FOUR nitrogen spheres in the ABC system.

You can purchase the accumulators separately. Part for the front and rear accumulators (You need two) is: A220-327-01-15

Be advised there are two other nitrogen spheres in the system as well. One is mounted to the pressure relief valve (Part #A220-327-02-15) which is found in the front right side of the vehicle.

The other is a small nitrogen chamber (Called an Air Cell) that sits near the fuel pump in the driver side mid/center of the vehicle, (Part #A220-320-04-15).
