CL600 Starter Replacement. How the heck do you get to it?

Followed the MB manual on replacing a 2001 CL600 starter. Dropped the bottom panel. Took me 10 minutes to even get a glimpse of the starter. Lots of ABC assembly between me and the starter. In order to get to the attached view of the starter, you'd need to remove the wheel well, heat shield and then some.

YourMechanic has quoted me about $600 to come and do it for me. Thinking that might be the deal to take, unless someone out there has a trick (probably several tricks) to share.

Thanks.

Wis has it about right.

Once you drop the exhaust there is enough space, its not too bad.

Remember to detach the battery.

I let the mechanic handle the starter. Took him two hours. Probably would have taken me 6-10. Car now starts every time, but am still working through intermittent Limp Mode foolishness. Thinking its a prolonged relearn issue (lots and lots of new parts), but sure would like to make that isue go away.

No CEL. No codes. Pending codes for both Camshaft Sensors and associated O2 sensors. Put it through 8 start-up cycles today with no Limp Mode issues. Hopefully getting better every day.
