Exclamation Do it yourself Bentley grille

Now this is a project, this is the first try but the system is perfect. definitive but perfect

remember that you have ro remove the hood security system and build another system (example, under hood steel cable)
because if you drive like this and per mistake open the hood, you will be in BIG trouble !

I have been thinking about how to do this as all the retrofit Chinese grilles on the market are CRAP !

I finally found a company who had genuine Bentley Jaguar steel polished grille per sheet
this is not welded grille ! why ? because crap grilles are welded and limit distortion to fit
with non-welded grilles you get PERFECT fit

in this first version I have a regret which is the holes where I have the lower bolds
I finally was very bendable and in the next version I will have no more holes

Bend the grille carefully from inside after fitting and fixed

the system let you remove and replace the grilles as much as you want

also, I had no time to paint the frame inside

Just follow the MB line of the hood for cutting

have fun !

You did a nice job and i like the way it looks but i'd be afraid the resale value drops with mods like these.

Pmercury- I think if you can contour the screen/grilles to make it flush or slightly protruding out then it'll be nicer.

What I meant is convex the screen so it'll have a curved surface like the exterior of a sphere that will blend in w/ the shape of the car's nose. How stiff is the screen? Is it soft enough that you can curve it?

sure can curve it
but now I'm looking for a 4mm mesh like on the last picture
it's very difficult to get in a sheet

Why not just buy a Bentley and then "kill and trash it" instead of the nice CL

First of all, this is my 34th car, I had everything, from Ferrari to Bentley to Escalade over 33 years, never had such much fun and challenge as on this toy-car (talking about the V12BT, it is so much fun because on 5000-10000 to buy
if you're lucky and you have mechanics as hobby, skills, and more money to spend on it
I grow up partially in the US so I have that mechanics learn and do it yourself decease you only catch in the US, UK, and Finland.
I retired from music last year, so hours and hours time everyday.

why would you sell a toy you like ? I rather bury it in my garden with all the work I put in it, so what I said was a Metaphor

+ never forget, it is rare that here in Europe, you get ANY of the tune-money back on selling, even with 750+HP. nobody cares what you did on the car outside of OEM

also, here, these are the last years we can drive around with V12"s. maybe 10-15 years more to enjoy as every-day car, maybe less
The "pseudo" ecologic mafia is everywhere raising taxes and kicking us out for electric cars

enjoy the sound of your V12 as long as possible, I never run my radio, I listen to my engine's music

also, I sell my Ferrari mufflers lol:

This time using a more classic method for the lower grilles
compressing the grille between wood

works nice

I have to say your "Bentley grille" looks more like a method of catching flys than a real Bentley grille.

The screw holes along the bottom edge do not help. The mesh looks too small and the real grille has a surrounding edge to it and a bar down the centre. IMO it does nothing to enhance the look of your car.

It's a strange desire...can you imagine if a Bentley owner affixed a Mercedes grille to his car? It would be daft...just as this obsession people have with putting Bentley "style" grilles on their non Bentleys.

You have one of the nicest Mercedes ever created...why spoil it?

This is a first try
I have a order of much better grille for the main grille

as on the picture I posted for search

I admire more the people who try things then people who only talk and comment
then about taste, some people eat stuff we think is ****, and they think what we eat is ****

I am totally into power now, so OEM, don't care anymore at all, neither the OEM look

but I hope you feel better by having expressed yourself here
waiting impatiently on a interesting threat started by you with a creation or mod

all the best !

Calm down.

Your threads are always interesting and informative...but this, IMO, is a step too far. But, it's your car and I'm sure you enjoy it.

for that you calculate the obstruction of your grille
best is no grille of course
but I agree, this first grille is not the level I desired

but I'm not vomiting either lol

Waiting for the new custom special mesh grilles I have designed and are in production in a factory,

here is the final hood security version replacing the "stick out grille" OEM version

1) open the hood from cabin
2) push the hood AMG button
3) open the hood

how I did this ?
naaa, you don't need to know

Jeez you're so touchy.

Your grilles for the fog lights look good, the main grille still looks crap. But the later version will I have no doubt be much better.
