mercedes cl 500
abc warning sign (red)
Hi there I am new to this, owning a Mercedes cl and writing on a forum so struggling with both. driving my cl yesterday and the red abc sign came on saying
drive carefully so got home looked at a few videos which were saying check the abc fluid levels. did that and realised it was well below minimum. purchased the
correct fluid and topped up to the correct level. started it on drive to check levels again and was ok but there seems to be air bubbles on the dip stick.
do I take it for a half hour drive for fluid to warm up and activate the suspension several times as advised, or not?.
any advise would be grateful regards keith.

Well, a red ABC light is not good, driving with the red warning can damage the pump because lack of fluid to the pump... Ok, now for the bubbles, I would try to activate the ABC level (up position and down) several time, this tends to move the fluid threw the system and kinda flush the air in it. The real way is a "rodeo" done at a dealer or a qualified mechanic.
You must find out why you are low on fluid as well and get that fixed
If you ever get the red light again, try to just park it and get it towed, you don't want to damage the pump, it is ultra expensive to repair!

Air bubbles and a red ABC warning almost always indicate one or both of the Accumulators have ruptured leaking nitrogen into the system. This is also where in a closed system the fluid goes when it gets low as a ruptured accumulator will fill with ABC fluid.

^^ Agree with what they said 100%. If fluid is low, there are bubbles in the fluid, and there is no puddle from leaking out fluid it's a ruptured accumulator, or more than one. ALWAYS stop and shut off the car as soon as it's safe when you get a red ABC warning.
