CL500 Swapping a 5SPD for a 7SPD auto transmission.
I guess this is not the usual as I can only find info for swapping the 722.9 into a car with a 722.6. I have a 2005 CL500 with a bad 7SPD trans but everything else is in real good shape and the car has many options. I also have a 2002 CL500 with a good 5SPD trans but the rest is not in as good a shape as the 05. I want to swap the 5SPD into the 05 but I would like to know what else i would have to swap. I know the 5SPD has the computer in the fuse box and the 05 is inside thr trans itself. Is the wiring harness for the 5SPD separate from the engine harness or do i have to swap the complete engine harness? Would I have to reprogram something?I have the STAR/DAS. Do I have to change the Shifter also? What about the kickdown switch, is that a separate harness? Any help would be greatly appreceated.

very difficult job, but I would not do that, because the wiring in the engine bay is very different.
the ETC module is in the engine bay, that connects to EPC and Engine ecu you would have to rewire so much stuff you have no idea of
one car has a 2.7 engine ecu, the other a 2.8 unless you are a electrical beast, forget it
other modules might be upgraded version too

Ok, let me start by explaining my background a bit, I was an Aviation Electronics Technician in the military years ago, I am also an Automotive Technician for over 15 years however I have been in Management for a few years now so I'm a bit rusty but the ability is there. Swapping engine harness and ECM is no problem and the same for EIS so I could use the same key if need be. I'm just not sure it would be completely necessary asthe 2005 W211 E500 uses the 722.9 trans but the same year E500 4MATIC uses the 722.6 trans. The other stuff is controled by the Gateways/Modules and I have the STAR/DAS to program them for the other VIN. Th
e 2002 interiors are shot so I'm just trying to decide wether to swap transmission and related wiring to the 2005 OR swapping interiors and all related wiring and modules for the extra options from the 2005 to the 2002. One more thing, the 2002 is a rebuilt title but it was for a minor fender bender and the 2005 has a clear title. Wondering which would be easier to do...

I’m all for unusual swaps and retrofits but this is one I’m not sure is worth it. What version of ME does the 2005 have? If it’s still 2.8 this may not be entirely out of the question
i would be very prepared to swap not just the trans and tcu but maybe even ecu/shifter and ignition system as well
