Navigation DVD not working

I have a 2006 CL500 that I cannot get the Navigation working. When I hit the Navi button on the console I get a NAV loading message on the display. After about 5 to 10 minutes I get a message NAV DVD not present insert disk. The disk is inserted. It is the original factory DVD that came with the car. I have cleaned the DVD and see no scratches. I have also tried changing the DVD reader in the truck with a different one I got off EBAY and still get the same results. Has anyone seen this problem? I really don't want to take it to the dealer for this. The battery at one time before I got the car had died and was replaced. Does anything need to be reset after battery replacement for the Navigation to work?

Thanks

So this is defiantly a problem that will require re-pogramming of command?

No.

I know of one person who fixed this problem by simply cleaning the lens of the optical pickup of the navigation unit. There is plenty of information to be found on how to clean the lens to be found with a google or YouTube search, so there is no need for me to detail instructions here.

Thank You "bobterry99" . I also though a dirty pickup lens could be the problem. I replaced with another DVD navigation unit I purchased off ebay and got the same results. Unless both Nav units have dirty pickup lens?

It does seem an improbable coincidence that both nav units would have a dirty lens. Yet it's implausible to me that COMAND could be the problem -- particularly if your CD changer works.

1 you can never be sure that the DVD player your bought is not on its end
2 yes the DVD player has settings in Xentry/Das so should be set to the right slot in command
3 A DVD can look clean but might have a problem too

There are many choices for DAS/Xentry Diagnostics for MB.
Ensure you have the right information before getting one. There is too much misleading info.

Thank you pmercury for the advise and diagnostics. I will do the following:

1) Will clean the pickup lens in NAV DVD reader.
2) If that does not work copy the OEM DVD that came with the car using a PC. Then try the duplicate Disk.
3) Since the dash and trunk CD players are working it seems that command should be programmed correctly, so I will not worry about setting in Xentry/Das for now.

If you have the part number of your disk I might have a clean ISO
About the DVD player, I am not 100% sure if there are internal settings.

Thank you again Pmercury, so no change in settings even if the battery went dead. The part number of the NAV DVD drive is the same one that was swapped out. So maybe the OEM disk that came with the car when it was new is bad or the lens on both drives are dirty. I will take drive out of trunk this weekend open it up to clean the lens.

Ok over the past weekend I took out the original OEM NAV DVD drive, opened it up got a Q-tip and alcohol to clean the pickup lens.
NAV still not working after cleaning.

As the ebay supplier I purchased the 2nd NAV Drive from accepts returns I shipped it back for a refund and ordered another unit from a different supplier.
I am hoping that I had 2 bad NAV Drives. The 2nd replacement should be here by the end of the week.

If this different replacement does not work I guess I will be forced to see the dealer $$.
I have seen on some other threads that someone pulled the Command fuse to reset Command on an SL to fix a similar issue.
I would like to try that also, does anyone know what number and where the command fuse is on the CL500 W215?

Thanks

Finally got the NAV working over the weekend!!!! The second NAV Drive that I got from Ebay did the trick. So it seems that I had 2 bad drives the original factory drive and the first one I got off Ebay. Suprized as the car only has 7500 miles that the factory drive would go bad so soon. Thanks for all the help.

Don't hesitate to message me so you don't go into the wrong direction with a DAS / Xentry Diagnostics Choice.

The good news is they did give a refund on the drive and prepaid the return shipping
