As the title suggests... Like many folks that scour the internet at night reading the same procedures in a half-willed battle to fix that pesky half opening boot lid, all my attempts (also) seemed futile. Convinced it wasn't a hydraulic issue, I set about trying all the options I could find without getting my hands dirty.
I too, don't have that mysterious menu on the dash.
The holding a button for 5 seconds also... nearly took my hands off.
The trigger on the door panel. Nothing.
I even read the w220 wiki trunk page Trunk - W220 S-Class Encyclopedia - from top to bottom. At least I now know how to break into my own car.
Then it hit me. If you are going to re-teach the car where the boot lid is, don't keep telling it that 'fully open' is at the halfway mark... I know, I know... Seems simple now right? Why did nobody mention this!
Assuming you have checked that you definitely DO NOT have the trunk lid limiter option...
You don't need to run the engine, you don't even need the key in the ignition. I would suggest somewhere dead quiet though... Read on.
1. Open the boot however you like. It will stop halfway.
2. Slowly push the boot to the fully open position.
3. Open the driver door.
4. PULL the boot release button so that it clicks and hold it for 10-15 seconds.
4a. If you listen closely, you will hear something mechanical in the trunk area do a little dance and stop.
5. Close the boot however you like
6. PUSH the boot release button so that it clicks and hold again for 10-15 seconds
6a. You will hear that little dance again.
7. Open the boot. You're welcome.
