Aftermarket Head Unit
When I purchased my 2005 CL600 I thought it was such a great car, which it is, but I did want to be able to play music from a Bluetooth source. I started doing some research and found that there were some replacement head units for sale, I wanted it to look like the original and not require cutting anything in case the original Comand unit should be re-installed. I bought one Chinese had unit which promised to be a perfect replacement, it wasn't, the ebay ad said it supports steering wheel control but after it arrived I could see no way to connect the canbus to the unit so it would start and stop as the original unit did and respond to steering wheel buttons. I wound up sending that one back to China, that cost a few bucks but they did give a full refund. I continued my search and someone on this forum or another one sent me a link to this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/164604876137. I bought it and it was about as perfect as possible.
I have installed it and it was pretty much plug and play, you do need to buy the fiber optic decoder if you car has the MOST system and you want to use the existing amplifier and speakers, which I did. Also it comes with the canbus decoder, I tapped into the canbus at the ac control on the console. Probably the biggest hassle was the radio and gps antennas, I didn't ant to run wires through the car to the trunk. The unit comes with the gps antenna and I bought a cheap hidden type radio antenna from Amazon and just connected them to the head unit. They didn't work, the CL's glass and body block the signals. I used the cable path through the firewall ahead of the drivers seat as a path to the engine compartment. I put the gps one on the lid to the fuses on the driver side and the radio one on the underside of the hood on the passenger side in order to play out all of the wire lead to the antenna. Now everything works. I have a Bluetooth link for music, a modern sat nav and full phone functionality. Also the unit has several usb connections which can be used for music storage, also you can charge your phone. I have learned quite a bit about the CL as well.

I can feel the thump in the doors .
now what about the speakers in the bottom kick board . Not getting any audio through the lower left and right speakers . Are those connected to the mono speaker in the center
