weird messages on IC, now car wont start

hey whats up guys. just curious if this has happened to anyone else while im waiting for roadside assistance to come.

first off ill start by saying that the weather here in nyc the past few days has been pretty cold (8 deg - 18 deg). last night while driving, a red batttery came up on the instrument cluster that said something to the effect, "battery charge, see workshop." i called roadside and they said its most likely due to the cold weather and not to worry about it. went home, parked the car in the garage which was 64 deg.

this morning the same thing came up on the instrument cluster. weird but went to work anyway. had to go to the bank and as im driving the same message comes up and then a few minutes later another message came up that said something like "please start engine or comand will shut off in 3 minutes", keep in mind the engine was already on. i turned the car off and then tried to turn back on again and no dice.

i got a ride back to work and now the car is sitting in the bank parking lot and im waiting for roadside assistance to get back to me.

this sucks.

Sounds like the alternator and/or the battery are going out.

Have the car towed in and have service diagnose it. Roadside Assistance are nuckle heads for not telling you to have this checked out.

i just spoke with roadside and they said the same thing as you, it might be a bad battery, alternator or belt. they are coming with a new battery to see if that works, if not they will flatbed it to the dealer. thanks.

That red batt warning light is for the whole batt system, but if that light comes on during driving and the car still drivable, and the car will not start after it have been shut off then it is the batt, VS the car stall while driving and will not start again then is the ALT.
But since it was happened on a very cold day and that might be computer, cos sometime moisture within the electric system might freeze on cold weather causing this problem as well.
So since your car already towed to dealer, you will know the reason when they find out the error code

Did they say why this happened? I'm surprised the alternator went out on an '03.
