CL550 headroom

I'm interested in a CL550. I tried on a CL500 yesterday in the dealership, and I didn't fit. Even with the seat all the way down, my head brushed the headliner to the outside of the sunroof opening. The MB spec for the front seat headroom in the CL500 is 36.9 inches, which is the same as the CLS. The CLS actually seems to have a bit more headroom than the CL500 to me, but they're both too tight for me. I have an SL55, which has 37.7 inches of headroom (more because there's no sunroof), and I'm fine in there.

Anybody know what the headroom is going to be in the new CL?

The attached link will take you to the MB Switzerland website where the new CL already appears. The headroom in the CL is 937, SL is 957 and S-Class is 1005. I didn't convert to inches, but obviously the "number" is smaller on the CL, which could also be a concern for me since I am 6'3". I sat in the new SL and had more than sufficent headroom, especially compared with the prior generation SL. Having driven an S-class for many years I am more comfortable in the larger car, so I thought the CL would/could be my next car. Now you have me concerned.

(I went back and did the math. 937mm is equal to 36.9")

Thanks for the information. So the new coupe has the same headroom as the old one. That means I don't fit the new one. My salesman did say that maybe we could special order one without a sunroof for about $1500 extra...

Jim - Slight correction to my numbers on the S550. The S550 short wheelbase actually has more headroom than the long wheelbase. The US version LWB headroom is 961mm/37.83". So, the headroom in the S550 is slightly less than one inch more than the CL550.

Yes. It's kind of strange that the "big" car, the LWB S, has essentially the same amount of headroom as the SL, and 1.3 inches less than the "middle" car, the E.

OBTW, the Audi A8 and S8 have 37.3 inches of front seat headroom, or half an inch less than the LWB S550. The BMW 750i has 39.2, or 1.4 more than the LWB S. The Jag XJ Super V8 has 38.4, or a little more than half an inch more than the LWB S550.

wow! how tall are you? I'm 6'4 215lbs and the CL(215) is a dream to drive and I fit just fine with room to grow. I've yet to experience the CL(216), but I'm sure it's just as roomy(sp). It's too bad the 216 CL is ugly!!

My girlfriend has a CLK and that car fits me at 6'4 as well, so I suggest you go back and re vist the seat and height adjustments. Now, If you are 6'6 or above you may have an issue.

I'm only 6'2", but I have short legs (32" inseam). Right now I'm trying to decide between special-ordering a CL550 without a sunroof (yeah, I know that will kill the resale value; I'll probably lease it for that reason) and getting a SWB A8.

hmmmm, 32 inseam at 6'2 with or without a sun roof should be a reasonable height for the 215 CL. Like I said earlier, I'm 6'4 (with a 34 inseam) and I fit perfect in the car. Go to the dealer and start the car and adjust the seat height all the way down and move it all the way to the rear. I'm sure you've tried all this, but I'm just trying to figure this one out, because I'm larger than you and I think this is the largest coupes that I've ever been in.

Good to see someone taller chime in, but how'd you score a 2007 CL? Congrats! You must be the first.
