I jsut bought a CL600 (2007) and there is not a sport package even available. What gives? FOr 5600 you can get the sport package on the 550 and look waaaaay cooler than the 600. I do not understand this at all. I might take my deposit back.

Get the Carlsson kit....they most likely do this so there is actually a reason to buy the CL63 over the CL600 IMO.

They really don't offer the sport package on the CL600? I'm surprised, especially after seeing this link.

That's a European car. Not offering the AMG package on the S600 and CL600 is an MBUSA marketing decision. They seem to want to reserve the AMG look of the V-12 cars for the 65s. Marketing does stuff like that. If they get convinced that they'll lose more money from people asking for their deposits back than they will in upselling to the 65s, they'll change their minds in a flash.

Personally, I'd consider the $35K or so it would take to move from a 600 Sport (if it were available) to a 65 to be a great bargain. Having an engine, brakes, suspension and seats to match the cosmetics -- priceless.

Agreed. The W221 CL65 will be a beauty. I suspected it was a marketing antic. But wouldn't it be to boost 63 sales, since the 600 makes more power than 63?

Good point. I suppose it depends on who was in the focus group. But a 600 Sport would cost more (and probably be more profitable) than an S63 so it's not clear that it would drive the decision. I also suspect there's a V12 marketing and/or product marketing team that's behind it rather than just AMG product marketing. That may be part of the problem. It might be an interesting topic to bring up on the next AMG Private Lounge chat on 12/13. I notice that in addition to Rob Allan (MBUSA Product Manager for AMG) there's also "Mr. Mark Ramsey, AMG Product manager from MBUSA." My first question is going to be what's the difference?

I would purchase the CL 600 rather than the CL 63. So what if its AMG! Bi turbo, and till now i dont trust the 63 engines. And i agree, get the carlsson or brabus kit.

those are aftermarket kits and or not sold through the factory. Trust me I bought a cl600 and the sales manager told us that there was NO sport package for 600's. total BS. I have had them in the past (sport packages on 600's) and the sport package on the cl550 looks GREAT! that is a great question to bring up to the guys @ mercedes how do I do this. I agree I could spend 50k more and get it with the engine. But that is getting a little too outrageous money wise for me. I would then consider a bentley or aston where in that price range they tend to hold thier value more.

the basic question is how can a TWIN TURBO 500+ HP V12 not warrant a sport package if that is what I desire...at least give ME the choice!

If I had a CL600 w/o sports package, I would most likely get a quality aftermarket body kit instead paying for the AMG kit.....more unique IMO and in some cases better looking.

yes I honestly worry about looking a little cheap or ghetto. had a schnitzer package on an m5 once and it was cool but came off and was annoying.

gimme a SPORT PACKAGE OPTION!

If you get a quality aftermarket body kit that is installed correctly, it will neither look ricey or fall off...plus it will be unique, since over the next year there will be more and more CL550 sport package cars on the road and very few custom kit ones...

Yes, thats true. Besides ART, Carlsson and Brabus have designed a very clean looking kit.

jimand7,

You could try a dealer in Canada since the AMG Sport Package is available for the CL here. (We ordered one with the Sport and Technology package a month ago. Should be arriving in Spring.)

It really does not need boy-racer embellishments.

And as for after-market body kits they look so down market IMO.
