A New Convert - '08 CL600

Hi Guys,

Well, traded my '09 C63 yesterday for an '08 CL600, majestic black, black ash, black leather, 19" twin spoke alloys - beautiful machine!

Definitely getting used to feeling but not hearing the car - without doubt the quietest I've ever been in and that almost silent, never-ending thrust - what a car!

I do have a few quick questions for those familiar - I've searched both the CL and S forums and haven't found answers yet.

- While an '08, mine is a July '07 production - doesn't seem to have blind spot assist or active parking guidance - I'm assuming that they were both introduced later in the '08 model year. Is my thinking correct?

- Can anyone advise what DVD audio format works with the CL? The audio DVDs I used in my C63 aren't recognized.

- Has there been a significant COMMAND software update? The nav and voice control in particular seem a bit arcane. I did read one thread that mentioned an update but no feedback from anyone that got it. Might address the active parking guidance too..?

Overall delighted with my new beast. Thanks in advance for any feedback on the above.

Considering sprint booster (will keep my questions to that thread) and if I really lose the plot, the Renntech upgrade...

I have an '08 CL600 exactly same as yours. It was made in Jan. 08 and has the blindspot assist and active parking guidance.

As for the navigation, your dealer should have loaded your CL with the latest navigation software on delivery. That is standard procedure. The most current navigation software has bird's eye view.

Thanks for the feedback. Got the dealership working on the definitive answer right now - will share what I learn.

Weird but good observation. EPA Hwy is 17mpg, got 19mpg this am with several, how should I state it..., thrust capability exercises! Clearly didn't buy this for fuel economy by with the big tank, love the range. Frequently got as little as 250 iles per tank in my C63.

I have a 08 Cl 600 in black. Did the Sprint booster and the Renntech ECU/TCU upgrade. It is a completely different animal.

If you think it is great now, do the upgrades and hold your breath!

Since it was made in 2007 if it has not had the oil/filter changed you need to have it done. Dealers will just reset the maintance reminder when they sell the car but the oil should be done every year per MB even if it only has a few miles on it. Congrats on the new ride, you will love it;.

Thanks guys. I must admit that the Renntech upgrade is extremely tempting. Is it true that under hard acceleration, the rotation of the earth is changed?

What wheel setup do you have with your Renntech upgrade? I'm running the staggered 19's right now- they seem to handle the power very nicely and I'm keen to retain a stock appearance for a stealth approach. Well, as steal as a black 600 can be...

My wheel setup is 19 inch staggered with the optional rims. Still smokes the tires at will with Renntech upgrade.

I keep 34 lbs of air in all tires.

06 CLS55 AMG & 08 CL65 Mystic White
Thumbs up Congrats!

Congrats on the new ride. I'm also 1 month new to the V12 World. I just bought an 08 CL65 Mystic White- and I'm loving every minute of driving her.

In the future I think I'll be doing some modes. Let me know how that works out for you.

Congrats, if more thrust is needed, have Kleemann or Renntech on call.

Your comparing luxury GT's to a sports car. Mine has some Mod's Exhaust, etc. it is putting out around 440 HP per RSC, weight is close to 3600 lbs. You do the math

i see , i see. Interior in the vantages is pretty bleek; a plethora of plastic accenting the leather. The DB9 is a step up in that regard; anywho it is a 100k+ vehicle, so i must give respect where respect is due.

enjoy in good health !

Guess you haven't seen one for awhile. Every part of the interior is covered in leather or carbon fiber or aluminum/stainless steel. The CL65 has more plastic trim then the Vantage.

Great feedback on this and the other thread re: tires. I now have 4 PS2s mounted and replaced 2 bent rims in the process! The difference is wonderful. Now riding and handling as I would expect. Got the latest Navteq loaded and I ordered a sprintbooster today. That should give me the throttle response I've been looking for. Good comments from that thread too.

Appreciate the quality information from everyone. What the W216 forum lacks in volume, it makes up for in quality - not unlike the car itself....

Next? Still considering the Renntech. Wary of my warranty but saw that one of their authorized installers is a Benz dealer about 25 miles from me. I figure that all will be fine if I use them to service the vehicle too - should avoid and ECU / TCU overwrites etc. If I do this, I'll dyno before and after and post the results.
