Rear headrest

Rear headrest
Hi I’m new to the world of Merc and have just bought a CL500. I was assuming that the rear headrests come up by pressing the button in the front is this correct because mine don’t seem to do anything.

go on youtube and look for a video in which the auxiliary battery is shown being replaced(its in the trunk, behind the rear seats)..i believe that is where the pump to raise and lower the headrests is accessible.

Thank you! I actually did some research and realized I believe I know what the problem is. I've been hearing air blowing when I open the doors and since the car is new to me I thought it was a feature where it cools the seat for you automatically (like when you roll all the windows down from the outside). But turns out it's most likely an air leak under the seat which is the same air that moves those rear headrests. Now my task is trying to figure out how to access the bottom of the seat to repair the air leak.

Do you have the "Dynamic Seats" option? Go around a corner and the seat back bolster inflates to keep the driver stable, basically? If so, the "bladders" tend to deteriorate over time. Fancy phrasing for the gd things leak. Indeed, there is a pump that inflates all associated. A chip shuts it down, if the pump is essentially blowing into a busted balloon. Typically, you can clear the fault codes and then all is well.....for a little while. The chips catch up and there ya sit. If all you want is to get the rear head rests down, clear the faults and be ready to hit knock down on your center console. Then, until you get the bladders fixed (bring money), don't raise the headrests. That was my experience years ago. May be wrong, but offering an experience. Good luck.

I do have dynamic seats. Do you think there is a way to open the seats up and repair or replace the bladders myself? I haven't even seen the inside yet so I don't know what to expect. I'm sure I won't be willing to pay what it would take to fix these at the dealership.

There's a bladder in the upright seat back. That's fairly accessible. The cover can be removed from the back of the seat. If it's the seat bladder leaking, that's a pia. The entire seat needs removing, the covering/leather needs to be stripped off and then you can access the bladder. Add to that there is a twin seat and seat back to deal with, because it's almost impossible to isolate which of the four or which ones of the four are leaking. I chased this many years ago and threw a ----load of money at it. Never did find the right one. I quit throwing money at the issue and lived w/o the joy of the option.
Probably five or more yrs. ago I remember the bladder alone for the drivers' seat back was over $700. Add labor, unless you're darn capable and patient and it's pretty overwhelming. Welcome to MB land. Not being negative purposely, simply explaining what I experience. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I'm actually willing to take the seat out. And I'm just guessing but judging from the sound I hear when opening doors I think there is a good chance the leak is in the bottom of the seat somewhere on the air line. So maybe my bladders will be good.
