Is Mercedes CL550 with airmatic comfortable?

Hi peeps,

I am about to pull the trigger on a pre-face mid 2010 CL550 with AIRMATIC.. I need to go over 400 miles to see and test it myself and that is why I wanted to ask some experienced folk first. This is a weekend car for me and is something I particularly buy for myself as I love this particular model.

I did read through all the threads in regards to problems and so on (Im good with DIY so that doesn't bother me), but what really interests me is how comfortable the car is? I need a car that goes over potholes like they`re non existent as the roads in our area are just the worst you can possibly get.

Any help/ opinions will be more than appreciated..

Um...if you have the E63...what suspension you think is in that one?

I no longer own the E .. MARVELOUS vehicle, but just couldn`t relate to the stiffness. Traded it in for a 2020 GLS as a family vehicle ..

I have an E63S, a GLS580 and have had many other MB cars. As long as Airmatic was a thing, it drives like airmatic.

The only variance I have ever felt was due to tire choices or ride height settings (C-S-S+). In the GLS (as you know) we can lift the car about 4", lower it 2" (Sport) and on and on and on.

It is great, until the day it isnt and you have to find a multi-thousand dollar fix. Not too long ago I had to replace the pump in the GLS. Not a cheap pump, super easy job though.

Airmatic is VERY comfortable but the car will definitely be way more "boaty" compared to your E63/ABC cars. Putting my W211 in Sport 2 helps balance out the suspension in corners... I'm not 100% sure if the C216s have this feature (I believe it's called Airmatic w/ADS).

Regards,
SemihG!
