Fake CL600 Spotting

I've seen this one, just wondering, is there an AMG badge because of the rims?

what makes you think it's fake? just looks like an old cl600, pre 2004. Maybe just added the "amg" badge on the back. My friend had a clk430 and installed amg springs, so he added the amg badge. Kinda gay, but he wasnt pretending it was a clk55. Also, this cl looks like it has the amg body kit on it.

Yeah, but I meant CL 600 with AMG modification.....because this one had only rims and front bumper! It was 99-02 CL600, so with only 364HP....I think it shouldnt have this AMG badge....

the decision to add an AMG badge to your car is all about personal taste. When AMG started out a badge was added to the car even if it had a AMG bodykit or AMG interior mods, then as the brand became more popular thanks to the introduction of the 5.5 kompressor engine more and more people started adding them to ordinary Benz's. Which in my view lost AMG its mystique that had surrounded it in the 80's and early 90's. Personally for a benz to have an AMG badge it has to have at least the AMG wheels and bodykit. If I had an AMG i'd have it debadged anyway.

I saw a woman in a white CL500 with the AMG badge on it and I thought it looked kinda stupid honestly. I think that the only way a Benz car should have the AMG badge is if it is an AMG car through and through. AMG wheels and a few exterior parts don't make the car an AMG....

no, but its a lot less offensive than charlatans who put both the amg model designation and the badge on their cars and add fake quad exhaust to a stock rear bumper to try to complete the seduction.

They also have the rear AMG bumper as well, that isn't a non-AMG bumper in the pic' you posted....It's kinda hard to see in the pic' but it looks like those are also AMG side skirts....In fact I'm going to bet that car has the whole AMG body kit, it looks like it to me.....

Someone just added the AMG tag. There never was a CL600 AMG. This car has the AMG sport package and the owner added the tag. This is OK at least the car has AMG parts on it... from MB... its not like the dopes that take the two zeros off and put a "5" next to the CL6.

1) There never was a CL 600 AMG
2) I think CL600 doesnt need an AMG badge, V12 POWER!!!!!
I understand if an AMG badge makes this car better, but because CL600 is top of the line I dont really understand why there is need to put an AMG badge.
And I also dont think he has the AMG sport package, because he doesnt have AMG exhaust, pipes.
He only has rims and front bumper.
Interior was also just the stock one, non AMG seats........

1)That picture clearly shows AMG exhaust tips on a 2000- 2002 CL600, which can be ordered that way from the factory, no problem.(There the exact same tips you get on any 00-02 CL600 or 01-02 CL55AMG)
2)The interior is not going to have AMG seats if it's a CL600 it comes w/more plush interior, not AMG seats, the AMG package ie: AMG body kit/wheels are easily ordered that way from the factory give it a rest
3)It has the FULL AMG BODY KIT ON IT! I think you need some perscription glasses

You've actually answered the question!
It's not an AMG vehicle, if its gonna be an AMG vehicle, then it should have EVERYTHING, everything means the whole AMG package (interior included).
However, I didnt know the exhaust thing, I apologize......
OK, honestly, do you really thing that CL600 AMG sound better than just CL600?
Well, I dont think so.....

NO, don't get me wrong I agree w/you about the badging

It's stupid! if I had a 600 anythting I would proudly show it off w/out the damn AMG badge, it does look stupid on a CL600 V-12, The only thing the 55's came out with that are better in my opinion are in the newer 03'-on up the 55's have better brakes and a more sporty interior ie steering wheel w/paddle shifters on it and better looking seats....

Exactly! Thats what made me angry! Why would someone put an AMG badge on CL600?
I completely agree with you!

This has been discussed many times before.

Non US spec cars do come with the AMG badging DIRECT from the factory. It looks like a Euro Spec CL600 which does come with AMG badging if ordered with the AMG body kit (which the car does have).

I'm one of those "stupid" people that put an AMG badge on their CL600. My rationale was:

- My car has more power than the highest AMG model that year (CL55)
- My car has more power than the highest AMG currently (CL65)
- My car is physically identical on the exterior to the AMG models except exhaust
- My car had the AMG wheels (which Merc later revised midyear)
- My car has the AMG trans controller and tiptronic
- My car, per the dealer, has the same suspension as the AMG (AWiner has I believe effective debunked that, but that's what I was told at the time)
- My car in euro markets would be factory equipped with the badge anyway

But the best reason is:

- It really works up C class owners!

For whatever reason, I've never had a CL55AMG owner object. It seems when you have the real deal, you're not insecure enough to get worked up over it!

All that said, I still, like most, vehemently object to deceptive bading (600 on a 500, etc), but in this case in my opinion, on my car, felt the AMG badge was basically an adjective that applied accurately (except the brakes :-)

Ah great reasoning to have the AMG badge......because its more powerful....even though its not an AMG.

In my consensus of 600 owners badging w/AMG, I'm not saying YOUR Stupid, It's just that when you have someone who knows what to look for, sees your car w/out the AMG brakes or quad exhaust it's kinda stupid to put the AMG badge on their, it's inherent to the 55 models. Some enthusiasts will think your whole car is possibly fake re-badged everything, but in reality w/out the AMG badge anyone who knows Mercedes brands will know the 600 is TOP DOG in HP, & TO, no need for the AMG badge IMOP.
BTW you have got an awesome car!!!
