Angry what would you do?

This makes me mad. What would you do? I took my CL in to the dealer the other day because the check engine light had come on. They told me that the engine ECU and its harness needed to be replaced. Futhermore there was some Mercedes "representative" that had to fly in and look at my car. So the guy does not show Monday, then tuesday, wednesday, he shows up a week late. The dealership has my car for 2 weeks.

Finaly I go to pick it up today, and notice they had put 270 miles on my car. My car is a very low milage car. I am always driving my other car to keep the milage as low as possible. In one whack, the car has an extra 300 miles on it.

was someone joyriding in my car? They told me they needed to "test" it and make sure that it is fine.... how long does that take? 20 miles? 50 miles? 100 miles? why are there 275 more miles on my car? Does this make sense to you guys? I think someone just saw a nice CL600 and said "I think I will take that home for the weekend"! ... am I being unreasonable?

I never heard of such

I never heard of such a thing before, that is totally ridiculous. I would stay away from that dealer. You sound particular about your car, did you notice anything inside from them, dirt, etc...

Wow couldn't imagine that MB dealership would do that. I think you must get to the bottom of that. Eventhough they have to test the car, but 270 miles? thats just not right. Where did this happen? I feel sorry

The car was washed beforehand so I didn't notice anything else, but my radio setting were changed... I am going to complain to the service manager, but I don't know what else I can do. Its already done. Even my sales advisor said "yeah I drove the car myself too to make sure its all good". He is the service advisor... is it not good enough for the mechanic to drive the car?

In the last 3 months I drove my car less than what the dealer did in this one service job. The dealer was Mercedes of Westwood in MA. I am really upset.

Thanks for the feedback. I advise anyone taking their car in to note their milage before and after.

i'm not sure but maybe these 270 miles are some kind of error that occured after the engine electronic had been replaced.. i don't even know if that's possible but 270 miles is surely not a test drive. i think 10 miles is enough to check if everything work correctly.

I'd fight to get them to reimburse you for the excess milage. It sounds like someone was taking your car home at night.

sounds like it. 270 miles/14 days = 19 miles a day.

You need to raise hell with MBNA

Go to war on this! This is unsat. What you have going on in this dealership is free "rental cars" for employees. Your car is not an exception.

Talk with the owner, explain you are going to notify the police, the better business bureau and MBNA. See what he has to say then. You should have proof with the service ticket mileage.

I don't think I'd take a bribe to keep quiet. I'd feel I had to notify people to make this stop.

My girlfriend had a new Jetta back in the mid-80s in S. Cal. She dropped it off for service and they had it over the weekend. When she got it back, they had put over 500 miles on it and forgot to take the wine cooler bottles out from under the seat. When she complained, the service manager actually said this: "Well, you're probably not going to come back here for service so why should I care."

Well, after all they said there was a mistake in milage recorded as my car was taken in and out of service. I don't know for sure now, because I did not take my own numbers down... they said the actual milage driven was closer to 100 miles but no one really knows for sure. Even 100 sounds like too much to me for a test drive. They agreed that from now on if they are going to put significant miles on, that they would notify me.

I think anyone of you guys with a car like this should be careful whenever you hand your keys over to anybody. Note your milage... always. I know I will from now on. Thanks for all the feedback.

That's a very good advice for us, as far as I recall I don't keep milage record of my car. I most start now.

"Actual mileage driven closer to 100" WTF!!!! Once they go over 5 miles, what's the difference!? 100, 275. May as well be 5K! I would still kill someone. I would love to hear the explanation for this.

You are obviously a nice guy. But over 5 miles is unsat. Your car was misused. Someone had fun with it at your expense. NO DOUBT they drove it hard too. Why not, they weren't going to admit it anyway.

You MUST notify MB of North America and file a complaint. Demand to speak with a regional representative at the dealer in the presence of the owner / manager.
They are laughing at you for not pressing this one. By the way, they are lying thieves, and nothing better.

Yeah... I hear what you are saying. And you are right.... I am going to have to make some noise about this. I know it was driven hard... who wouldn't drive it hard... its not theirs... why not....

I feel outrage for you every time I hear a story like this. It happened to me as well, they racked up 50 miles when I had my car in for service.

The problem is that I can't prove the amount of milage, because of some missing documentation on their part. Honestly I started to doubt my own memory after a while. But even they admitted to over 100 miles. They said it was "necessary" as the problem was intemitent. Still seems excessive to me and I know it was well over 100. I talked to the service manager today, and he said the same thing again, that it was necessary. I had other gripes with them including one where I was stranded on the highway for over 3 hours because the car was out if gas and I did not know. Turns out they changed the ECU and "forgot" to program the gas guage. It showed half full. I am still conseidering my options, they are contacting some district manager on my behalf to see how they can make up for their faults.

Your copy of the service invoice they give you when you sign their copy for your car at pick up will have mileage in and out.

The dealer in my country is even worse. Everytime my car goes to the dealer repair workshop for regular checkup, maintenance etc, all the coins and CDs are gone EVERYTIME. Until one time, I said I will call the police if they do it again, then the coins and CDs remain there.
