Black-out trim

Anyone blacked out the chrome trim? I have a techtite grey CL55 with black wheels and thought eliminating the chrome would look nice.

Anyone done this?

THAT SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF THE COLOR-KEYED, BLACKED-OUT LOOK YOU WANT.

NICE Ride! NO question I'm blackin it out....

Any pointers on HOW? Wasn't sure if the body shop should paint or if there was some other technique....

Appreciate any help...Guess I'll have to get the black wheels painted techtite while the cars in the shop for the trim...I'll post shots when I'm done.

In the meantime, PLEASE let me know how you did yours.....

THANKS!

I looked into many methods, but finally had the body shop etch the chrome strips and paint them; it was an enormous task to take off and put back on and they still didn't put the rubber weatherstripping back correctly, so it's back in the shop as I write this. Also, there is no way to guarantee the paint won't chip or scratch off - you have to be real careful. Why? Because you're painting over chrome.

The only real way to do it right is to powder coat it but it won't match the paint. Too bad they don't offer this as a factory option for those of us that hate chrome on the body. You should also look into spraying the lights black as well. I didn't want to do it at first, but then was convinced when I saw the car, all blacked out, with these red lights glaring back. Red just looks out of place once you do this. Hope that helps.

Send some pics once you're done - if you can to the "regular" CL forum, as I rarely visit the AMG one.
