Picking up my CL65 today....

The anticipation is killing me. The car is a 2005 with 12900 miles, black/charcoal. Weather permitting, I'll have it at the dragstrip tonight!

You sir, are a true champion among men, if the first thing you're going to do in your new $180,000 car is run it at the track.

Well, it was a $180,000 car last year, but it is far less now....however, a few dragstrip pulls on stock tires shouldn't hurt too much. I had my new Z06 on a road course 7 days and 1100 miles after taking museum delivery. These things are meant to be driven, right! ;-)

How do you like the new Z06? My old man has an '03 Lingenfelter 427 that he protects with his life, but drives it like a maniac with the TC always off. I find it totally terrifying, from the position you sit in (basically on the ground), the ominous view over that huge hood, and the fact that the doors weigh as much as one of my shoes.

And this is coming from someone who has a (nearly) 1000 hp car.

Driving impressions please!

Well, I love the Z06. It is incredibly civilized for such a track worthy car. I find it very easy to drive, but I have had several high powered Vettes to cut my teeth on. I don't know about you, but it sounds like your Dad driving might make me nervous in the passenger seat as well.....

My car is featured in a cam/header swap article in this months GM High Tech Performance magazine.

http://gmhightechperformance.com/tec..._installation/

There will be a followup article in next months Vette mag with a ram air install, and the car made 521 rwhp...plenty entertaining for a 3100 lb car. It will run neck and neck with my Lingenfelter ZR-1 that has a fully built stroker motor.

The mods really brought the car to life...much less tame than in stock trim.
I need to get a video of the Z vs the CL once I get the ECU mod...should be an interesting race.

Where did you read that or hear about that from?

DoctorV8, I'd take you up on the S600 since we're so close, but already have a sedan.

this site...google search...when i was modding my car i was very interesting in powerchip, ecu upgrade whatever the hell it's called. A few people on here have said after dyno they lost a little bit of horsepower...Doing a google search and ending up on other forums i read about some very unhappy customers...of course there are people that love it too..i mean if i had a 65 i would not chip it because it already has 600 plus horsepower..but that is the owners decision to do as he wants.

I agree with you on this one, there's a point of diminishing returns with a 4200+pound car and I think AMG reached it with this one. Plus you run the risk of desintegrating your tranny, the torque of the engine is already limited so as not to do this. Its going to be fast as ebola death with the right rubber on it anyway.

Ah okay, I thought you were specifically targetting the TTV12's!

I think although there may be a point of diminishing returns, it hasn't reached yet. If I recall correctly the torque limit of the 5sp is around 1000lb-ft.

Chip = better throttle response, area under the curve, etc.

never heard of a problem with ecu on a 65 car from renntech or kleemann, more likely it was a lesser known company w/o the knowledge and track record of renntech or kleemann.

I love the fact that you drive the cars the way they are suppose to be driven. As soon as i got my s55 back w/k2 mods i took it straight to the dragstrip. I also had my m6 on the road course as soon as i got through the break in period at 1200miles

Enough with the chit-chat:

B.T.W. that V12 M5 Le Mans is pretty exclusive. Didn't know BMW actually sold it.

I picked mine up last week...one incredible machine. Congrats DocV8! Regarding the Renntech ECU, $6800 is the quote directly from them in FL. Is there any way to save any bucks by going through an authorized dealer? That figure is a far cry from the $2000 Dinan upgrades I've done with past bimmers.

Sorry for the delay in posting pics....

A professional photo shoot has been scheduled for my car this weekend for an upcoming article being written on it at thetruthaboutcars.com.....stay tuned!

I've put about 500 miles on the car so far....I'm really impressed with virtually everything, but....

I still can't bring myself to part with my E39 M5. ;-)

V12 AMG....email or PM me for the answer to your question.

Powerchip has been around for 15 yrs, so to call them "a lesser known company" i think is a little over the top. I just had my E55 tuned and got a 45hp gain. Haven't had any problems what-so-ever. Give them a call at 310-235-1122 and ask for Matt ot Travis, they know their stuff! With that said, do your research and use the process of elimination. Last thing you want is to waste your money!!
