Bone stock CL65 dyno results....

My car now has 16,000 miles on it. Finally had a chance to get it up on the ol' dynojet. I was very pleasantly surprised with the numbers: 559 rwhp 670 ftlbs.

Even without the 1% SAE correction, the car made 550 rwhp and 660 ft lbs. I am the 2nd owner, but I have no evidence that the car was tuned previously. I know for a fact the 155mph limiter is still intact, as you can see by the curve dropping off at 5200 rpm in 4th gear. Has anyone seen a stocker dyno higher than 520 rwhp?

Also, the A/F ratio was spot on....if anyone else has a curve they can post to compare, that would be great. I expected the stock tune to be quite a bit richer.

The car trapped at 120 mph in the quarter previously.

Do you know where the dyno tech got the lead for rpms from? When we dynoed the sl we couldnt find a lead so no lbft readings for me. I think my car put down 553 but I may be wrong, I will look for my dyno and see what it said. BTW great numbers. My car has trapped at 119.7@5500ft so we may be close to the same power?

Yes, he put a piece of reflective tape on the harmonic balancer and used an optical pickup to measure RPM. Not easy to do, but it worked.

My sad little 55 did 450 and 530 with a pulley and I was quite happy.

Does the great baseline tempt you to improve things?

Doctor, you are using 93 octane right?

Roger's S65 dyno-ed at 542 using 100 octane. So you have really good numbers.

Congrats on those numbers, they are out of the stock spectrum in a good way. Are you sure your car never was flashed before (Renntech, Kleemann)? Taking a 19% DT loss and you are pushing 690 hp and 825 tq at the crank. I know the cars are detuned so maybe you got a car made on a Sunday

I lived in Dallas when I was in med school in the mid 90s....been in Houston for a few years now, and grew up here. Still have the M5...don't drive it much but I love listening to it with the B&B pipes on it.

Aj,

I went low 12s at 120, spinning all the way due to the crappy track. I agree....with that much power, I would expect 122 or so.

DFW01E55,

Yes, I've been thinking Renntech for a while now....just hard to swallow paying over $6k for an ECU reflash. Also, I suspect my gains may be less than spectacular if the car is making more boost than the average '65. We'll see.

I agree....I am not the original owner, so I guess I need to investigate. However, if it was flashed, I wouldn't have expected the 155 mph governor to still be present, which it is.

That was stock numbers using 100 octane. I do have roger's dyno chart but there was no torque reading available. So i think we have to re-dyno the car.

That's right, Ricky! It's LeMans Blue with full Caramel leather. I have another buddy that wants it too, so let me know how serious you are. I am going to be very sad to see it go, but I just don't drive it enough! It's got 28,000 miles, but only 2000 in the past 2 years. I'm the original owner, and it was broken in correctly.

I doubt that the stock ECU tune can really take advantage of 100 octane fuel. Did he dyno it on pump gas as well?

Also, the dynojet only measures torque, and derives HP from that by multiplying by RPM/5252, so I'm sure the dyno operator has the torque curve on file.

I am with you on this, the price does seem a bit high but like I said if I get the 80-90hp and 100lbft I wouldnt mind spending that. I know on my e55 the k2 was day and night and was well worth every penny so if the tune can do the same to the 65 im in. Maybe we should get one from each tuner and then race to see which one works better. These tuners need a 30 day trial period like hyper tech on the trucks.

I just remembered my friends and I are going to get to work on a S2000.

If he passes though, let me know and I'll rethink the S2000 for the summer.

Awesome numbers, great hp, is that normal? Mine just dynoed at 510 RWHP and 670 RWT, so the torque is the same, but hp is way low on mine. Is yours exceptionally above normal, or is 550 normal for these cars? Does the type of dyno make a difference? Mine was on a Dyno Dynamics, and yours is a Dyno Jet? Great numbers though.

Dave,

I was expecting 500-520 rwhp. My numbers look closer to those of some of the tuned cars.

Indeed, the type of dyno and correction factors used can seriously skew the results. I always prefer to post SAE correction factors, which are a hair more conservative than STD, which would have yielded 570 rwhp for me.

My tuner, Henderson Performance, also installed a Dyno Dynamics eddy current unit recently, which is certainly more sophisticated and useful for tuning purposes. I'll have them put the CL on there to compare at some point.
