Another CL65 Disaster...
Once again promised the world, led on by another (again!) tangled deceiver who's promises never met expectations.
This time in Connecticut.
2005 CL65, black/black 4700 miles. I fly out from Miami. Guy used every diversion tactic in the book-didn't trust the check, wanted a bank wire, made me run from one bank to the other, etc... Agreed on price pending inspection-ooops, to qoute Mercedes: "We would never sell a car with bent rims like that."
Two bent rims not disclosed to me (despite having curb rash removed from one?, but not remembering which side). Among many other excuses, along with not knowing what a "road force machiine" was (depite owning an automotive repair shop). Blames dealership as trying to sell me two rims (not in stock). Too bad it was not true.
I was at the dealership like a hawk from 8:30 am-7:15 pm watching them like a HAWK. Why did he try to pull me away from the inspection to "get the papers" that were on his shop 40 minutes away? And after I discoverd the vibration existed, now found the papers in his bag and wanted to take my check/cash and hold it and give me the title?
I've never seen a bent rim that I could clearly see on the axle when the mech spun it...huh, so that explains the heinous vibration, and not the engine "pushing, talking to you" as the seller said to me when asked about said vibration on first test ride (over somewhat rough roads).
Some of my final words-after he registered so much "doubt" (he can't doubt what he already knew and did not disclose to me IMHO) my/dealer's veracity? "I strongly urge you to come down here, and see these rims for yourself on the lift."
I don't understand why...? Why he wouldn't? I'm on a plane 7 hours after we agree, and he won't drive 30-40 minutes to prove me and a dealership wrong? He had no problem with my Uncle driving him home 40 minutes so he could go do what he had to do (12-5pm). Now that he is free? He can't make the time? Total B.S.
B.F.L. seller's integrity was in question, car became tainted. If I think you are lying 20%, how do I know you are not lying 100%?

The worst part? Is I would have bought the car at that price if it was disclosed to me, not purchase a car to drive 1500 miles to South Florida doing how much damage to the two tires, the car, or myself? My guess is the car/rims/tires would be OK, but the tires would be spotted and become out of round (if they weren't already) so if I put them on new rims in Miami they'd be ruined regardless. And addition sum of money, now to the tune of $3-4K to the sale price (since 50% of the tread was gone, If I replaced the right rims and add knew tires, the tread on both sides would be off by 50%. Wouldn't I have to replace all four tires? Yeah, add that too...

If everything else was OK, why didn't you just deduct the cost of the OE 65 rims and tires from the price? Or, at this point, you were fed up with the guy, didn't trust him, and would not buy anything from this dealer?
Sounds like this guy should be grouped in the pool of the unethical car dealers that are here today and gone tomorrow. Have you thought of registering a complaint against his dealers license with the state?

Sorry to hear about your poor experience. I had rocky start with my dealer /CL65 too. I had to swap off 3 bent wheels. It was an unexpected cost and hassel but In the end the car is absolutely flawless and a complete blast to drive. I will say that the black paint is nice but it is a P.T.A to take car of and keep clean. Best of luck seems that you have lots of company in your quest.

It wasn't the dealership-they were outstanding (Danbury Mercedes) and treated me very well.
The seller has some type of business where he actually fixes cars and sell Mac Computres on ebay.
I was pissed b/c the guy was not upfront, and kept playing games. Had to tell him three times in clear, lucid english that I WAS NOT LEAVING THE INSPECTION. And his denial of the rims being bent as a possibility only furthered my lack of trust for him. If he had any credibility he would have at least came down there to see for himself-but he didn't have to. HE ALREADY KNEW THEY WERE BENT.
As far as I was concerned, if he had told me he had two bent rims in advance, we could have worked it out not roll the dice, lie, and distract me. Of course, he would deny all of that. I am sure it will be up on Ebay with the rims "unbent" by "Chongo Rim Science" repair truck, and he will roll the dice again and ask for $95K.
Any of you guys looking at this car who want specifics, PM me and call. I will tell you every thing you need about the transaction.

Dave,
The car we discussed may be spoken for. Some guy in Colorado wants it and is trying to finance it through his dealership in Colorado. I told the guy I would pay cash ASAP. He definitely liked that so he is going to call me tomorrow. Not much room for negotiation because the other guy was going to buy it for price advertised (at least that's what he says ). Anyway the guy said the car is very clean (they all say that) so if he the other guy doesn't buy it I'll have Mercedes inspect it as well as an independent mobile inspector. I'll let you know.

Hope you have better luck than me
I just realized he also mentioned the interior smelled like marijuana-which he stated was the normal leather smell. Is that bull**** too?

Seems as though you have more investigating to do . . . but I imagine you already know the answer.

Mercedes sources vendors with only the best leather from the best cows for its CL65. These cows have a very strict diet and they are massaged 3 times a day to get their skin soft enough.

Always keep in mind that the damaged cars that went through Katrina and other wet events are not junked and melted down.
They are resold and put on the road again. I wonder who thinks they are getting a great deal?
BUYER BEWARE.

Guy called and left me a voicemail this morning to see if we could work something out with the car and the rims.
After he knew I had to leave town. Amazing

Offer $20K less and enjoy him scrumming around. But if you still want to replace the wheels--just double the cost for the replacement and drive away.

To fully understand this twatwaffle, please read the posts BEFORE this, and than read from the bottom up. This guy continues to email me even though I told him not to. This June 26, 2007 message was sent me, which is his lame attempt to annoy me? I don't know, the guy is creepy-and now, he won't let go, since I caught him so deep in his own lies
I post this freely, b/c it is the truth, and I was misinformed by a sellor who claimed to not have noticed two bent rims as a daily driver for 1K miles, visible to the naked eye when spun. And apparently, I can't figure out how to block his mail
