My New 2005 CL65 AMG
Hi,
I'm obviously excited about my new car and wanted to share some pictures. This car is the perfect balance between luxury and performance IMHO. It was also half the price of the MSRP!!!

That's awesome man. So how much money did you pay for it exactly? How many miles? You truly have an amazing car with supercar power and the finest comfort. Congratulations.

I spent the last two weeks putting 3,000 miles on the S65, up and down the Pacific coast from San Jose to Seattle and back. Different routes of course. What a joy! The twisties are a trip. You can add 25 MPH to the caution diamond signs with no passenger discomfort. The CL has to be even more so.
And passing on the two-lanes is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Click it into third so turbo lag is not an issue. Floor it and pull out and it's the Millennium Falcon. I didn't do anything to overly scare my wife, but suffice it to say you don't need much of a break in oncoming traffic at all.

The car had 15,900 miles with an in service date of 2/2006 and it is a CPO car with warranty till 2/2011. Price out the door was $85,000. It was listed for $99,988. I got a fantastic deal!!

I had a 2005 SL600 with Renntech ECU/TCU upgrade. (I loved this car). I ended up getting the wife pregnant (pulled out 1/2 second too late) and sold my SL for a 2006 S65 AMG. This car drove amazing but the style was a bit old for me and it was rather large. I sold this and got my current CL65. Now I'm at peace

I really miss this car but it was a bit uncomfortable because my right knee always rubbed the console. For short distance driving it was a blast but all in all I'm happier with the CL.

I'm wrestling with the idea of switching the CL55 to an SL55. The problem is that each time I drive the SL, I'm underwhelmed and the CL rises in my esteem because of the test drive.
The CL seems to corner flatter, but how can that be? Ride quality goes to the CL, but that top down business ... it's all SL.
Was there anything spectacular about the SL?

Can you offer a short comparo of the cars?

... In the summer it is way too hot to ride with the top down so you end up not using the convertible as much as you would think. ... The car is very low to the ground and not very comfortable to get in and out of. The interior space feels fine at first but if you are tall it gets tight as you drive for a while. I always missed the pneumatic doors and folding mirrors of the CL. ... The CL feels definitely more comfortable for day to day driving and handles tighter. ...
You're dead on about the in and out aspect, the door is a long one and seemed difficult to maneuver. I thought it was me.
I will likely keep the CL for a while, unless someone forces a white 997TT on me.

Question on 05 CL65
Beautiful car. I'm thinking about a 2005 CL65 also. I'm worried about the fact that it only has about one year left on the warranty. Engine, trans, etc. are hugely expensive to fix or replace on the CL65. Dealer tells me that they only sell extended warranties to the original owner and that outside companies dont cover AMG cars.
Any advice / comments? BTW the car has 37K miles and seller wants $80

The dealer may be accurate about a Mercedes factory warranty but my particular dealership does sell extended warranties written by another company that will cover the CL65. Check the Chrysler warranty posted in this thread. It may be a pretty good warranty for the CL65.
80K is way too much money for a car with 37K miles. Unfortunately there are not a lot of CL65's around. It took me over 3 months to find mine and I have a forum member friend who is still looking for one. Be very careful when buying this particular car. I've seen some real bad ones out there. Good luck.
