Renntech intercooler upgrade?

Any of you have this? I love the Biturbo engine and the power and torque it provides but I always wonder if the engine is actually running at peak performance since the stock intercoolers are such crap and prone to heat soak. I live in South Florida and it is hot and humid on a regular basis. What do you all think? Is it worth 3K to be assured the car will always have the power it is suppose to have?

RennTech IC

I was contemplating the same issue with my CL600. However, the contemplation is now over and I will be doing this mod on Tuesday. I think that the knowledge of having peak performance reliably-time after time--is worth the relatively small percentage of the cost of the car.

It's become a no-brainer. I am in LA and while we don't have humidity, it can get hot. This week it was over 100 most days and the performance of the car did suffer. No more.

Your guys also got the RENNtech ECU upgrade?
Might as well do it if you're going to get the intercooler upgrades (for the twin turbo-ed cars).

Ecu Tcu

VRAA: Have you done the RennTech IC job for your car? If so, how do you like it? Why do you suggest doing the ECU/TCU at the same time? Curious.
Thanks,

I don't have a V12 Mercedes.
A good friend of mine has an SL600 with the RENNtech ECU change, as well as many forum members. They all love with with only one exception so far. For the tremendous torque and horsepower gains, I think it's almost a no brainer, especially if you can get a dealer to knock off a few hundred bucks (since you'd also be getting the RENNtech IC installed as well).

Yup, so far Evotech/Renntech 65s and 600s are producing the fastest times on dragtimes.com.

Thanks a lot for the info. Do most people you know also think the IC upgrade is worth doing?

It helps minimizing IAT @ WOT and many of my clients are satisfied with the upgrade.

Here's a picture of the components

Thanks a lot Adam. So, it will make a difference in reliability of performance? I will not experience the 'deadness' of the stock IC on a hot day?

The main problem is not just the pump itself; rather it is the frequent occurrence of air bubble in the system.

However, E55Jay has run series of tests that confirmed if the IATs are too high, the ECU will decrease the level of boost; thus decreasing the performance of the car itself.

Will help, but not 100% solve the problem.

Thank you. If it was your car, would you do the upgrade?

Should I wait or will I be able to make the changes after I put it in? By the way: is the bubble in the system problem more pronouned in hot weather?

You might be able to make changes to the kit in the future.

The air bubble frequent occurrence is mainly caused by a flaw of the intercooler system especially for the earlier 600 chassis.

Helps with the IAT if there's no air bubble in the system but will not solve the frequent occurrence of the air bubble.

Very interesting. Mine only seems to drop boost very ocassionally. Not every time I use the cars. Mine are both '06s. Will the RennTech ECU upgrade make a difference then?

Yes, the ECU and TCU from Evotech/Renntech does make a huge difference; especially the TCU for the 600s chassis. Shifting is crispier and faster.

There are a couple of members who have the ECU done, BlownV8 is one of the happy satisfied renntech CL owner.

That's great info. Will the ECU/TCU upgrade make any difference to the loss of power from the air bubble issue?

The gain from the Evotech/Renntech ECU upgrade is close to being 100 rwhp and 130 rwtq. (for 600 engines) If the intercooler system is not functioning properly, the car performance will decrease significantly regardless of any tuning done to it.

Yes I am! I'm also selling the car if anyone is interested.
