Do you guys always let your

cars warm up before you drive them? I turn my car on and let it sit at least 5 minutes before i get in it. It is not usually at operating temp but I feel like it helps keep the car running properly. I also try not to run the car hard right before I bring it in to turn off. With an older model (03) I feel like I need to be more cautious with it than say an 05. Just wanted to see if anybody shared these concerns/methods. Thanks

I can't afford
I wait till the rpms drop to normal idle range. then i don't drive it hard till it's warmed up... coming home if you have been driving it hard it is good to take it easy the last couple miles so you don't shut it off with the oil not cooled down to normal operating temps.

This is extremely important in turbo cars.

No no no. Don't warm the car up by idling it. Warming it up involves warming all the moving parts- differential, transmission fluid etc etc. It also doesn't loosen up the engine sufficiently either.

Warm up the car by driving in a restrained manner for about 5minutes/3miles or until the oil temp is at the midpoint.

Running the car hard before turning it off is okay but if it's FI then it's vital to leave it idling for 30secs or so so the fan can cool the SC/Turbo.

I agree, I actually do drive restrictively until the car is at operating temperature in addition to letting it sit somewhat before I even begin to drive. I am not sure I understand what FI means?

I give it a minute and then I'm off but as they mention above, drive restrictively until the car is warm after couple minutes

I give it a few seconds after starting for the RPMs to stabilize and then drive it easy for a while until warmed up. Thanks for the info on letting the forced induction cars cool before turning them off! This is my first FI car.

Car Whore
It applies to turbo cars only, you have a supercharger. It doesn't even apply to new turbo cars as they have automatic post-engine shutoff cooling to keep the oil from baking now a days.

Don't worry about it
