this CL65 has issues ....warning..on ebay

The cl65 that i actually had originally almost bought at manheim is now on ebay.....it has 15k miles....I talked with a friend the day of the auction when we had both looked at the car... the car was super clean but two problems did not add up.... one the fenders had been obviously removed and the bolt pattern was off by 1/2 inch on both sides... you could see the previous bolt pattern in other words and the trunk was wet inside... under the speakers in the trunk and the trunk lid as well... i thought it was an issue with the auction cleaning but they had left it open the day before for 2 hours to dry and the day of the auction it was just as damp as the day before...i was thinking the car may of been hit and the seals were not sealing correctly...carfax came up clean but it could of been a private repair....this info i got from a manheim employee.... they could not figure it out... strange... either way the car appeared very clean but these issues made my decision for me on the bidding and value.....

link to CL65 with issues on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FLORI...em280213047767

Auction price was $66,200

the scoop:

I dropped out at $62k then an internet bid took it to $64k ... A local dealer hit $66,000...and the dealer in naples on site hit it at $66,200-sold

From my experiance a lot of these guys buying from the net and not looking at these cars play with fire....same day i saw a 2005 E55 with 40k miles with the entire side of the car have a horrible repaint ...so noticible that it was rippled and foggy in appearance....and the interior as well was trashed and the rear bumper was scratched beyond a good compound... And what did someone buy it over the net for?
$42k.....i wouldnt of paid $32k you can get a mint 06 with good miles at auction for $46k.....the right car that is
not all deals at the auction are bad.... it is just the fact that there are a lot of inexperienced dealers buying cars and not knowing the real value and buying sight unseen or basing deals off of black book...which is good but some cars like the CL65'S are niche cars and only a few true buyers out there...also what is hot today can be dead tommorow so the high end cars are always a gamble.....and then when some of these dealers get these bad cars in crap condition they have to fix them to look pretty to resell.....not good for the potential buyer...

That is why reporting Manheim MMR prices is next to pointless. You have no idea what the condition of the car really is by some arbitrary "Average", "Below", "Good" rating post-sale.

It's an indicator, that's about it. You have to have access to the presales and take a look at the car personally.

The perfect example was a 2004 S500 a few years ago, sold by MB Financial, loaded with every single option. However, if you saw it in person, the whole car was repainted. You could see the sand marks on all the fenders, and i'm not a professional paint/body guy. An online bidder won the auction. I wonder what his expression would be when he had the car delivered?!

I would never ever sell a car to anyone on this forum knowing that most of you are very particular on your cars (rightly so) without looking at it beforehand.

Thank you very much for the info. I was actually looking at the car on ebay and saying to myself that it may be worth it to fly down their to look at the car. I am looking for a black on java but since this one looked to be in such good condition, i felt that it may have just been the one. I really appreciate the information.

your welcome.....

At $60k it would be a fair deal....but the trunk issue would be my worst worry....if you look at the pick closely you can see the front pass. side fender sticks out a little...

Now that you mention that, i actually do see what you mean. Man, everything else on the car seems to be in perfect condition. Eh, we got to let some pass.
