OK prices are too reasonable not to jump into a CL65 or CL55...so I am jumping.

But which one? The cl55 seems "more practical?" somehow with the gas mileage...

BUUTT...Damn the chance to really own a CL65 full time is hard to pass up...

Some of you guys give me the noted problems with each...especially the superchager issues vs. Turbos...Also is the ride about the same? My CL500 is cushishy...big time.

This all depends what you are looking for. It also depends on your maintenance/repair budget. Even though the price of admission has come down, the cost of ownership remains the same. V12's tend to be a bit more pricey to repair and maintain.

They are both great power plants and both very tunable.

I am planning on buying an 05 will low miles...The engines maintence costs are not the big tickets...They seem to run foreever...Its all the electrical NASA gatgets that end up costing...at leaset on my CL500...

I would love a Burgandy car...don't think I've seen any AMG55's or 65's...are they out there?

There are differences in maintenance costs. A brake job on a 65 costs thousands more because of the composite rotors and four-pad front calipers. All 24 spark plugs have to be replaced at 60,000 miles vs. 16 at 100,000.

I'd agree that most repair issues will be suspension or electronics -- pretty much the same. But in the event you do have a major engine issue, and no warranty, the 65 engine can be a killer.

I'd say that fuel cost is noise.

Just for the record, the cl55 has the 8 piston 4 pad calipers. I just did mine and it was probably the only thing mercedes didn't make impossible to work on with the "not available" repair guide and special tool assortment.

And if you need pads, find the exact fit ones which take about half an hour to install from the top or the others which if they work, require the caliper to be removed and the pads installed from the bottom.
