Jody out here on the west coast I cant find wholesalers who would take a CL65... the desire is just not there coupled with incredible plummeting values. It is arguably the worst trade in unit out here in SoCal and the OC.
Before I sold me car in Jan of 2008- I tried the trade in avenue (in a better economy Ill add) and there were no bites except at 60% of BB (88k KBB at the time). So I dumped it private party who knew how I took care of the car and got more. It was time well spent but did I get the real number I wanted, no.
I didnt care, it was worth the loss to get out of the car and get the 997TT. Cash is king but happiness rules all.
Here is the empirical data (heartbreaking for a seller) all 2005 CL65 units from Manheim sales:
10/02/08 MANHEIM Lease $49,000 16,480 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes
09/04/08 RIVRSIDE Regular $53,124 27,046 Above NONE NON N Yes
08/28/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $38,500 41,897 Below BLACK 12G A No
07/30/08 W PALM Lease $44,000 40,090 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes
07/07/08 CHICAGO Lease $46,000 42,070 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes
07/03/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $48,000 49,127 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes

What project is Jody going on, to me this thread is about someone thinking of selling his car!!

I agree with you vic..at this point I have something solid on the table. The dealer is giving me 50K but they will always wait..lol, I am going to try private now and see how that goes...all I want is a bit more than 50K, I could die and go to heaven, lol...Originally Posted by Vic55

Yup...but without a warranty....that warranty is worth a million dollars right about now...good luck finding one unless it's cpo'd and the dealer will rip you for 60K+...Good luck... See the advantage I have is that I was able to purchase one while I had warranty. The people selling you the warranty don't want to sell you one unless the OEM exist which most of them have expired already.Originally Posted by retardedmunk

You made me an offer for 20K...did you really expect me to accept that? lol
if a dealer is offering you 50k for your car - take it and run...
your car is worth about 45k right now and is falling fast. it might retail for 50k to the right person, but nowadays they are but an extinct breed.
just my 2 wholesale cents to you

Have you thought about trading it in at the MB dealer offering $50K? You do know that you get a sales tax credit on the trade-in which can be worth over $4K towards the new vehicle's NY sales tax.

The DC warranty which is superior to the CPO...it extends it by another 2 years....and you can modify all day long and not get BENZ reps telling you your warranty is void.....

It is hard to sell a car like this these days... You don't offer financing, sell warranties, or do the reg. of the vehicle. See if the dealer will pay the type of money they offered you!

well it has at least warranty, which is a must for these type of cars...Originally Posted by CalabasasMBZ

i know this is not the same car, but similar story...just smaller $ amount.
yday we went to look at a 2006 R500 at a MB dealer's pre-owned dept in SF Bay Area. he asked if we had trade-in, and i asked him to give me a quote on my 2000 E320 wagon with 113k miles, previously CPO, and not a single scratch/ding on the entire car. although i know used car market is slow and he was going to wholesale it and not keep it, i had to laugh when he gave me his price - $3k, take it or leave it. keep in mind, craigslist is showing similar cars for $8 to $10k. again, i realize this is not the same league as a CL65, but the point is - 65% less than street value - that's quite a joke

$500 to run it through the auction, maybe $250 to prep it, $500 to profit...
they are going for 4-5k through the lanes right now.
and he runs the risk of getting stuck with a blant, high-mileage, expensive-to-fix car so his 3k offer could be considered fair.
realistically retail on this car is 6k right now.
