Question Need some DIY help - Black Out Chrome Trim

I want to basically black out my whole car, but had a few questions..... I blacked out my grill, but I painted over the chrome trim and its already starting to flake off..... so basically can I take off the chrome inserts on the grill and how? or any advice on how to paint it so it takes? Everything looks good except the chrome is not taking. Also, haven't messed with the chrome trim on the outside of the car..... read some posts on 3M black tape to put over it? Seems kinda weird and a little ghetto, but just have no experience with it.... if not can I paint this too somehow? Thanks in advance.... I've attached a pic of my grill and a pic of the side of the car with the trim that I want to black out.

Go to an automotive paint supply store. They sell a chemical etching primer spray that will enable it to properly adhere.

that blacked out grill looks pretty good, There used to be a lot of platers in SC when i was there have you asked someone to dechrome the grill for you?
That should give you a good base without having to resurface the area.

I want to do the little chrome insert accents on the side of the car.... Did a little more research.... Right now I'm thinking wet sand 80 grit, etching primer, then they have a paint spray called trim paint that is suppose to be specifically geared toward adhering to chrome, then a clear coat.... not sure if the clear coat is necessary.... probably is... any thoughts?

I added the shadow-line BMW tape to the chrome around the middle of the doors and bumpers. Looked great for a while, but ended up going back to factory look when it started shrinking in places and exposing the chrome.

I used some high quality vinyl a few months ago. It looks great and is holding up really well. I recommend vinyl since its reversible. Paint is permanent.
