Buying CL55 from Independant Dealer

Should I stay away from those independant dealers selling Mercedes cars? I have found a few I am interested in but they are all at these no name dealerships. Some are in wherehouses or office buildings.

For example: I found this CL55 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/1106703273.html at someplace called Norcal auto sales.

I also found a Renntech C55 @Euro House of Imports, 2003 E55@S&S Auto Wholesale

AI checked all of them with Carfax & they come up good. Just wondering if i should trust these type of used car dealers.

Visual inspection and a an independent inspection would be a good idea. Plus invest in a Chrysler or Fidelity warranty.

Maybe some guys with Mannheim auction prices could give you more insight between the wholesale auction prices vs. their asking price. You might want to do a search on Mannheim under CL55 subforum.

All the cars come from the same place 90% of the time which is MAA. Big dealers charge a lot small dealers charge a little. At the end of the day its all the same cars.

Best,
I would think twice before stating the above. MB Dealers have a tendency to keep the best of the best of lease returns and trade ins which they have sold to their customers most of which are repeats. This means the buyer, most often, the repairs have been at the MB Dealership and not by some grease monkey using OEM parts without any AMG training. This is especially true for out of factory warrranty cars such as an 03.

For me, I have paid more to have the peace of mind of buying a pampered lease return from a Dealer. That is my $ .02.

In short you are 98% mistaken.

MB dealers buy cars nationally from Mercedes-Benz Financial at auction just like everyone else. Do some dealers keep a few tier 1 trades?... absolutely, is that the standard absolutely not. I am a independent dealer and i buy cars at Manheim auctions every week. MB dealers stand next to me on the block and buy cars for their lots each and every week. Mercedes-Benz Financial sells pampered lease returns on the Mercedes-Benz Financial lane at Manheim twice a month. If your piece of mind means paying 12-14K over the actual value of said vehicle then go for it.

Best,

Best,
In SoCal there are more than enough MBs so that the MB dealers can pick and choose which are keepers. If in doubt, just visit the West Side or the OC.

Most used car lots are just that; no matter how they dress up. Do they have factory trained AMG Techs? How many used car lots have been around for more than 10 years or so? Do used car lots have repair facilities, Star Diagnostic, or body shops using MB original parts, or even perform warranty work?

When spending $100K+ or even $50K most folks want to do business with the real thing.
