I have not changed the way I pressure clean and wash the wheels but the paint is now falling off the wheels and the black paint underneath shows(See pic).
I do the same with my other cars and no problems.
I noticed earlier that the paint was getting darker, as if brake fuid was spilled on them, but now I realize that the paint is just getting thin and is now just falling off.

I did not buy the car new, but the rest of the car is perfect, never painted and there is no reason to think these wheels are refinished.
Both front wheels are as bad as in the picture, the rears less, but also starting to have the same problem.

The car still has factory warranty and I will bring it in next week, I expect it is covered under warranty, but has anyone else have these problems?

My car is Flint Grey, the color of the rims always seems a bit off to me. Should I powder coast them to match the car, or keep them the slightly different, but original color?

the bad thing is that your not the first owner and you did not get it through a MB dealership. If you did get it through an MB dealership and those are the factory wheels i would go to the dealership slap the secretary 1st then complain to my salesperson that my rims are peeling im sure they would take it back or refinish them if possible

Well, they came with my CL65 that is 3 1/2 years old with 25K miles.
Bought it certified with 100K miles 7 year warranty.

I can't be sure they are original, but I think so. How can I tell if they are the factory wheels?

They are, the replicas aren't stamped AMG. Dealership should repair under warranty. They replaced my rusted lug nuts which you seem to have as well.

Trakcar,
If you carry it back to the Dealership can you find out the colour of the wheels, if there's a code. The colour looks like a Gun Metallic. Interested in painting over my CL into that colour.
Thanks

Thanks.

Maybe I have time next week to go to the dealer.

I will check on the color. I am actually thinking to ask if they match the color of the car. Since my car is Flint Grey, the standard wheel color seem a bit "off".

I don't think they'll do anything since your not the original owner. From what I remember they only deal with rim issues like that if the car is under one year old. I'm curious as to what happens...keep us posted.

Its a common problem on those wheels when they are refinished..The way they get that color is by spraying the wheels black first than misting a gray over it... if its not done right one of the layers peel which looks like is happing to you. If you never got them refinished the dealer might have to pass CPO standards... Which is acceptable BUT that means they are responsible for them if they are peeling.. Just a sugestion when you talk to the dealer tell them all you use is mild soap and water to clean( if you say pressre washer they might say that you cleaned them to aggressive or some bull )

Good luck

I hope that your wheels are covered.

I was wondering how you were cleaning them? I see your statement that you haven't changed the way you have been cleaning them, but I was wondering if you might share what sort of pressure washer you were using, and what other cleaning products were applied?

Regarding the color of the wheels, the AMG wheels on the 65's were a darker gray color than the bright silver of the V-8 engined models.

Best of luck with getting the wheels replaced. Keep us informed.

My left rear wheel is doing exactly the same thing. Lease ends next month, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Just picked up the car at MB Palm Beach.
The service is awesome there.
Tried a dealer closer to home, but will stay with MB palm Beach for the service alone.

Wheels repainted OEM color under factory warranty + a bunch of other stuff repaired before the factory warranty runs out the end of the month.

They officially refused to lower the car with the MB software, but it sure looks 7/8" lower than before.

It looks stock ride height just a bit better, not slammed, just how I like it.
