Hey everyone, first of all Im new on this forum. I currently have an '03 S500 and im thinking about picking up an 05 CL63 AMG. I found one locally for $50k with 40,000 miles. Does it seem about right? Any tips or advice?

That price seems alright. Also just to get it out of the way---if you use bold for all your posts all the time it might have the exact opposite effect you intend around here. Anyway welcome, you will be getting a hell of a car, but they can be potentially incredibly expensive. For instance, a new engine for that CL65 costs around 70 grand, just f.y.i. Of course very rarely would you need a whole new engine, but everything else (brakes, suspension in particular) can be pricey to fix. Just get it checked out before you purchase, and keep it maintained.
Yeah my bad I meant Cl65.. And thanks for the tips! I also saw an 07 E63 AMG with only 27k miles for $54k its newer, fewer miles and it still has warranty. They both sound so tempting, what would be a better choice?

Whatever you get, get the extended warranty!!!
I've had my CL55 for less than 2 months and MB has already called on the extended warranty twice. now the parts were a total of less than a thousand, but the labors already hit about $1,500. The warranty has almost already paid for itself and i'm not two months in to it. i bet they are going to hate me at GMPP. HAHA Although it is exspensive it is a wonderful car to own, I can only imagine what the CL65 is like versus my CL55. Also, remeber that with 12 cylinders vs 8 everything there is more exspensive too. Good luck, not like you can really go wrong.
I live in Arkansas, so its not like I will see another CL for another 4 months, so do you mind having the older car or not.

Re: the '07 - yes I have considered switching to an E63 as well. The cheapest '07s are going retail now for around 45K. You could even go newer and get an '08 C63 if you just want speed/handling. In the end I liked the more sophisticated chassis and increased luxury of the CL, even if it is a few years older. If you don't get the warranty you will probably still be alright. I have not had one for the 2+ years I have had my car and if I had it would not yet have proven to be a good investment. There are a few things that always tend to be expensive - the air suspension, the tire pressure sensors, the brakes (esp. CL65) - but the drivetrain tends to hold up pretty well. Of course if you need the peace of mind or can't risk a five figure repair then you'll need to find a way to keep yourself protected.
Thanks for all the advice! I looked everything over and bought 2010 C63 AMG. Brand new with just 10 miles, and a full 7 year warranty
. It has some nice handling and raw power!!
Im not sure of one thing: Some of my friends (w/ lots of car experience) say that if you want the car to go faster and be more aggressive, you need to be aggressive the first 20 miles with it. Others, also experienced, say that i should wait at least a few hundred miles before going crazy. What do you guys think?

ExploreUrban legend. Did your friends buy two identical new cars, beat hell out of one and treat the other decently, and then compare performance after for solid proof of this theory?
Give it decent treatment initially to make sure that bearings, rings etc have a chance to wear in nicely. Then beat the snot out of it.
Very nice choice in machines, BTW
