2004 cl600 battery warning light
btw, other than the no charge state car runs well.
thanks.
Why not buy the alternator from a reputable parts supplier like NAPA? At least they will give a guarantee and may be able to direct you to a shop that can do the work for a reasonable price.
To get it rebuilt is a good idea, but it won't save you much money relative to buying from NAPA or your online source.
Who is that online source btw?
The job of removing the alternator should be straight forward.
You will have to remove all the nearby components, such as the windshield washer reservoir, air pump, fan shroud, v-belt and nearby pipes, hoses, electrical connectors and cables in order to easily access the alternator.
Then remove the 3 bolts holding the alternator in place and remove. You may want to inspect the flange gasket at this time.
Install in reverse order and then re-connect the other components.
Or have a reputable shop do it and get a guarantee.
Good luck.

BIG question- i'm beginning to think that it may not be the alternator, but a relay. when i look at the chart in the trunk it doesn't show any relays, or fuses associated with the alternator, or charging system. i assume that there must be one. any idea on where it is, or how to find it? 2004 cl600. thanks
p.s. just called napa and other local stores and nobody lits it.

An other possible reason for not getting a charge is the idler pulley (automatic belt tensioner) failing. It is the smaller pulley between the ABC tandem pump and crankshaft.
