For 35k$, I'd rather buy an used 911/Cayman because it looks better. The old CL looks boxy and unattractive.
Boxy and Unattractive? It's far from Boxy and one of the best looking cars ever.

You're lucky and have a handful of data points. How many ABC or Airmatic failure threads do these forums need to generate in order for you to realise these cars are not reliable? Or that warranty companies won't write policies for these cars? Or that consumer reports point to poor reliability...

Boxy? Are you kidding me? Unattractive is subjective thing but boxy? Where are the right angles on the W215?

Nickia...what? R u nearsighted? brother?

LOL.... IFARI...me likey

FRASER....look this CL65 I OWN has the original STRUTS ON THE CAR....AND THE ORIGINAL PUMP AT 84K MILES....what does that tell you? Why do the insurance companies stopped writing? Because every Joe on here and elsewhere
took their cars to the dealer who in turn racked up and insane list of parts and repairs on the cars....

AIRMATIC FAILS 7X more often then ABC....

FACT: My buddy who had just spent $14k through his warranty...on his CL65 ...why? the dealer said the car had the turbos leaking oil....my independant mechanic said nope ....it is ok it was the engine mounts...with a $800 price tag......he went ahead and had the work done anyway...why not? His warranty company would pay it.......so there you go....the dealers are out to make money and will find even not repairable stuff to claim... and it killed the aftermarket world.....

lol....boxy? lol it is one of the best looking cars ever built... I HOPE WHEN you go to a fine *** restaurant and the waiter says "sir what will you have" and you tell him....well " I will take a cheeseburger and some fries" LOL....

I prefer the Sirloin chef special.....

that is what a 996 911 is....a .99 cheeseburger..... a joke...the interior is early eighties STILL...AND over a CL65?...WHAT homey?...what...... a CAYMAN? Yuppie ball suckers drive those....it looks like a squashed Beetle...or something that a T-REX crapped out of his A-HOLE......IF THE dino was not extinct...lol

You wanna know what I have owned and driven?

Well over 150 cars....the W215 65 to me is THE one I come back to ....over and over and over..

Kind of like the Latin woman I am with now...If we split...I WANT another Latin woman..or Asian...but no BOXY Americans for me....LOL....yeah they r at times a pain in the ***...but damn they are fire ...FIRE yall!!!!!!!!!! like the 65....

It seems like most of those who disagree with your sentiments are scared of owning a CL of any kind. No use wasting time with them, because they are coming off like pool tables...that is they are too square and looking just about as green with their supposed knowledge of what makes great value in great cars.

very true Ifari....true to the point..

You have to own one to know one....the AMG cars are also even more reliable then the regular models......since the parts in the cars have been strengthed to a degree....

and yes value in a car represents a lot...at $35k you have a zo6 killer and F430 killer in a really nice package.... for pennies... only fools dont see that...and us smart folks do .....seperate the men from the boys....

I"ve driven over 75,000 miles on airmatic with zero expense and zero failures. However, the ABC suspension did not prove very reliable to me - 30,000 miles and $10,000 in repairs.

By the way you are talking about your CL65, it really sounds like you should keep the car. I love the CL problems and all. Had I not needed a bigger car, I would still be driving a twin-turbo 12. It was really difficlut to part with the car after having poured a ton of money into the car to make it more reliable.

tx Patent....love your car...

my fav color...actually....

You know I tried so hard to get a CL65 FLINT GREY with keyless...I love the greys....I had one ball cut out just in case a Flint Grey one came up..it never happened.....they always had a ash interior or no keyless or one which was an ex race car....lol....with only about 10 or so built in that color it is hard...

YES BLOWN-ex v12....FINANCED IT ALREADY....$520 a month on my CL65...not bad for a like new 80k mile car....I am in the process of getting the front brakes done..another oil change...turning the headliner black ...getting a subwoofer installed.....and a tune and getting it lowered as well...2 of the wheels are not as good as I would like...so I am getting all of them re-done to match perfect..... I love spending money on my KING....***** IT...

I will be posting videos of my CL65 kicking C63 and z06 *** soon......with the radio playing and the a/c seats chilling my ***

I have never ever read a thread of yours...

I have to say I am a follower for life. Most entertainment I have had all day.

Certainly beats getting my aces cracked against KQ earlier.

I am just curious, does anyone (besides rtrddmunk) think this post might actually sell this car for him? I cant afford this car, I do not pretend to be able to, but I am interested. LOL I want this car and never new I needed one.

Keep this going, if Caddyshack was not on I would consider Airplane if you want movies of a certain age.

Your post above (particularly the bold portions) spell out my reasons for disbelief. Your hyperbole doesn't impress me or even entertain me; in fact you're quite boring and ordinary.

I could start by observing that you're a racist, a bigot, a misogynist and a sociopath but unfortunately none of those preclude wealth or stupidity...so carry on

On to the question at hand. CLs don't seem as popular to me b/c they fall in between several categories of vehicle. They compete with what...the Bentley Continental GT? Not many people looking for a 2-door $200k+ boat. Nice cars but not all that popular for a reason.

BTW I want some of whatever you're smoking. It has fried your brain. Maybe it's the east-coast Florida humidity...

I look forward to your uncreative and boring response.

I agree. Judging by his posts, he doesn't come across as an intelligent gentleman which the CL was meant to be driven-by.

There seem to be 2 main reasons listed for why the CL is unpopular:

1) The maintenance is expensive.
2) If you can afford a CL, why not get an Aston/Bentley/Ferrari.

It's odd, because these are completely contradictory. If you went with one of these other cars, the maintenance would be much, much worse. The cost of routine service on that class of car will cost you more than fixing the problems on a CL65. In other words, a good condition Ferrari will cost more to maintain that a broken CL65.

Worst case scenario on a car like this is the feared $10k ABC bill (dealer price, would probably be $3k or less at an independent). You could spend more than that on an oil change and set of brakes for a Ferrari that has nothing wrong with it. You can drive a CL for 100k miles doing not much more than $100 DIY oil changes and maybe the occasional few thousand bucks for a coil pack, ABC pump, strut, etc. Now try to rework that sentence with the word Ferrari in it. You can't drive a Ferrari 10k miles (let alone 100k miles) without the owner freaking out that the car is now impossible-to-sell high mileage and will soon require a $50k engine replacement. If you could get a Ferrari to run over 100k miles (as an example there is only 1 Ferrari in the whole country on Autotrader with over 100k miles), and you tally up all of your costs (routine maintenance, repairs, depreciation) I can only imagine you would start crying.

A CL65 can be daily driven for a decade. An Aston/Bentley/Ferrari is likely to be daily driven (if at all) for a year or two, and then become a weekend car. You don't buy a CL for cheap maintenance, any more than you would buy an exotic. You buy it because, even if it doesn't have the cache, it's a better car than most exotics out there.

The real reason, in my opinion, that the 65 models are hard to sell is that they still cost significantly more than the 600 models. When you're shopping for a car like this, it's easy to justify spending a few grand to go from the CL500 up to a CL55 or CL600. But it's hard to justify spending almost twice as much to go to a CL65.

LOL @ saintz

You just listed all the reasons why I always buy second hand Benzes. My car years are 1999 (1) 2003 (3) and 2007 (1). And the last one was only an indulgence due to my 40st b-day.

It takes some time to find the right car, but if you find it, the depreciation the previous owner(s) had to take will compensate for a whole lot of extra maintenance due to its age (even without extended warranties). And you still ride like royalty, albeit a bit dated.

This depreciation continues of course, that's why I decided not to trade in anymore when I buy something new. I save the trade in value by buying second hand. I can't stand the thought of trading in one of my perfectly maintained cars for a bargain.

Back to the CL65 seller. Your market is extremely small, and you have to have a meticulously maintained car to be able to even sell it, let alone for a good price. Patience and huge depreciation in your future I see.

My advice? Keep the car your so lyrically about (I see you are following that advice already), and add a car if you get the buying jazz.

Very true. A 65 depreciates over $100k in the first two years, so the original owner is paying over $50k a year to drive it. You could buy a two year old model and, instead of repairing it, light it on fire the first time something breaks and it would still be cheaper than buying new.

Why is that a problem limited to just the 65s or ABC equipped cars?
