CL65 misfire
Hi Guys,
I,m having a nightmare with misfires on my 2005 Cl65 with 89,000 miles .
The car got misfire codes for cylinders 1-6 and a P0300 multiple code.
I replaced that coilpack and all 24 plugs, the car ran ok for a short while.
Then got codes for the other bank cylinders 7-12,so replaced that colipack and ignition control box in middle of engine.
The car now drives ok apart from full throttle when the CEL comes on and it goes into limp mode. The codes are P0300 multiple misfire and cylinders 7 and 12.P0307 & P0312.
I have rechecked the plugs, coils wiring, pipes etc etc and replaced a damaged MAP sensor. The problem happens at any engine temperature, but drives well even at 3/4 throttle.I have a CM30 pump and the IAT's are good.Fuel filter is not old.
I have found on another thread, high load misfires are read by the crank position sensor, not the spark plugs?
Maybe a blocked cat?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I will change the CPS just to eliminate it.
Has anyone else with the M275 engine had individual cylinder misfires that wern't cured by changing the coil packs or control module? When I checked the plugs again, cylinder No.12 were quite black and No.7 very slightly dark compared to the rest of the bank.Would this be the result of driving a short distance in limp mode before i reset the fault?
The only other thing I noticed was the pcv valve mounted at the base of the airbox seems to allow air in both directions and was quite oily. Is anyone else's the same? a normal pcv is only one way.
Thanks

This would suck, but if you were running really rich from the bad MAP, you might have re-fouled your plugs. Meaning you might need a whole new set of plugs. This is assuming the MAP went bad after you changed plugs.
When my MAP was broken, I was getting lots of misfire codes. I haven't checked to see if it improved since changing the MAP.

After changing the MAP, I checked and cleaned all the plugs and swopped the misfiring ones to another cylinder, Still go the fault codes for No.s 7 & 12!

Missfire solved
Hi guys, update on my cl65 missfire issue. Took the car to a main stealer for 2 days- they couldn't even diognse the problem! I bought my own back pressure gauge for £30- and proved back pressure on the cylinders 7 - 12 side of the exhaust (pre cat) . Fitting a new cat cured the problem, the old one showed overheating from the raw fuel going through when the coils failed.
Hope this helps anyone else with the same symptoms.

i am having the same issue.. i replaced both coil rails, spark plugs, coil driver on center of engine, fuel filter, air filter, check fuel pump pressure, changed o2 sensors, changed cat converter from warranty from dealer.. and still has a mis fire

Did they gap your spark plugs? There is an MB bulletin that states that the spark plugs must be gapped to .27cm if i recall correctly the ones at the dealer come with a .70cm gap. It will cause the car to misfire. Give it a shot.

Nice that this was bumped as I have been having the same issue.
My CEL light came on but no symptoms were present, it was then diagnosed as an injector or plug faukt.. so my garage serviced the injectors and checked the plugs which were ok.
On driving it though the CEL came back and it was misfiring badly, so now they think that one of the injectors needs to be replaced and I am waiting for one to arrive.
Will keep this updated with the result.

i just took my new sparkplugs out and noticed oil build up on the sparkplug threads.. which can cause poor grounding of the plug and will misfire, after cleaning the oil i gapped the spark plugs at .030 and i checked the plugs and they were set at .026 from factory, im hoping this fixed the problem.. and i will let u you guys know if it still misfire in the morning... my misfires come on only during cold start ( morning)

Misfire Complaints
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of misfire complaints, please check basic systems, read and analyze freeze frame data etc., perform diagnostic steps as outlined in "V12 Engine Complaints Diagnostic Tree" in STAR TekInfo (EDAC) and repair as necessary (in case of warranty use appropriate operation codes and time from Time Guide).
If a fault was diagnosed and a repair was performed as per the above, confirm if the condition was corrected. If the condition still exists, proceed as follows.
1. Check charge air coolant pump for function (i.e. current draw) and ensure there is no air in the system.
2. Perform repair as necessary.
3. Bleed charge air coolant system circuit.
4. Confirm if condition was corrected or changed.
Note:
Check current draw as described in DAS --> List of possible tests --> Check component M44 (charge air cooler circulation pump) --> Test current consumption of component M44 (charge air cooler circulation pump).
If all the above has been checked and a misfire on cylinder 3 (P2046), 4 (P2049), 9 (P204C) and 10 (P204F) together with P2043 only (no other misfire codes) is still present, proceed as follows.
1. Check the part number of the boost pressure control valve and replace if needed. (If the part number is A275 153 00 59 it must be replaced)
2. Flash the ME control unit to the latest level of software and perform SCN coding.

Thanks for sharing this ^ I shall present it to my garage.. The car has been there 3 weeks now,and they are still unable to solve the misfire. I waitied a week for a new injector to arrive from germany, and after it was fitted the code has moved to other cylinders.. very frustrating.
Which image are you trying to post above? everytime I refresh the page it changes

I cant say that they haven't done that, as they were quite sure #12 was giving the error (but I will ask!). But since putting it back they got multiple errors on different cylinders. Which could be something else.
Anyway, I'll give them the TSB tomorrow and see if it helps.
Before all this started they thought I may have a transmission problem as the car was rather jerky under acceleration. But they cant check that until the misfire is sorted, and if i'm very lucky, it could be the misfire thats to blame. But I wasnt getting any CEL while that was happening.

I had the misfire code once when I switched gas and tried out the 100 octane.. Haven't had it since on regular Super..
Haven't tried the 100 octane in a while since someone mentioned it wasn't good all the time.. they mentioned it was lead or can't remember something else (or is that false?).
Are you using the same Gas brand and octane the whole time?

Update on mine.. luck would have it that another customer brought a CL600 into the shop today and they swapped over the coil packs to my car, and problem solved!
Now they need to find out which was the offending pack and get it replaced.
Still some vibration after 40km/hr though, so some transmission issue may well need to be sorted

The ignition timing module?
I'm starting to get po300 randoms.. But only if I gun it to WOT..
Doesn't happen all the time.
I think the car can't handle the tune. Might have to flash it back to find out.
Sure is fun with the tune. Maybe I'm over doing it
In my case, what do guys think it is?
I'm thinking cps or ign module, wires.. Or my foot.

Ignition module ($ 1,000) is probably it, if crank position sensor, coil packs, MAP sensors, plugs are all good...........
It also could be the catalytic converter/s being bad - plugged with damaged material......a dealer can check the back pressure on that.......we thought that was the issue with mine....
Tp repeat....I had same issue with misfiring and went through everything and the ignition module was it.....all other items were good......I even changed plugs and it misfired again on one side 7-12, which was original issue........

I only see a part# for the Coils and Transformer. Know what it's offically called, or part# for that Ignition module?

Was having the same issues with '08 CL65. Went to dealer and was told it was do to carbon build up. A additive was added and problem went away. Was told there's a bulletin out on it.
