Lowering button

Hi guys and ladies I have a 2005 cl55 amg Question:the lowering button Do you use it much? What does it do? Will it mess with the abc system? The reason I ask is that I read alot about the abc system problems and I am a little gun shy using all the bells and whistles. Like abc sport, manual shift, and lowering. The car runs like a top and I put alot of miles on it. I am keeping the maintenance up. Should I just stop babying it and have at it.The car is a beast. Sorry for the rambling.... Happy Labor Day

Which lowering button? The ABC Sport button doesn't actually lower it. There is a raise button. That should only be used for speed bumps, etc. You want to generally drive it in low mode (both LEDs off).

DUH!!!!

Duh do I feel like a . The arrow is pointing up....I need reading glasses bad. So my new question is How does the raising button work? More pressure to the hydrolics? How high does it raise the car? I feels like I live in the speed bump capital of the world. Also I have been driving in sports mode . As you can tell I just took the keys to the car and didn't read the books...Just drove and loving ever minute of it. Thanks for clearing that up.

The button with the arrow pointing up is to disable the towing prevention. I think a siren goes off if the car gets lifted on either end if one does not disable. The normal position is enabled....

That's actually a different button.

On ABC equipped cars you can raise the ride height (normal height, raised one level, raised two levels). It increases pressure to the strut to raise the car. If you always bottom out on a bump, raise it before going over. Generally, you shouldn't need to do this. It only raises it maybe an inch or so. You can try it and see.

I use mine at least twice a day on my SL55 when I leave or enter my drive way. If I don't, I will scrape the bottom.

Yeah, driveways are a good example. That's truly a matter of ride height.

Speed bumps are potentially different. If you have to raise the car to clear the speed bump, period, regardless of speed, that's one thing. But if you're raising the car so you can take the bump at a higher speed without bottoming out, be aware that you may be abusing the crap out of your expensive hydraulic suspension. Those sudden jolts from big bumps can spike the already insane pressures on the lines/struts/valve blocks.

I use mine about 10 times a day as well, as my car is lowered. Pulling into my own house every time, any large speed-bumps I cross over, and my office has a nice gutter to go over as well. After 93,000 miles and 6 years, my suspension finally went for about $4500. This seams typical for the life of the suspension and I don't think my usage of the raise feature had anything to do with it.

I think raising the car puts more pressure on the ABC system related parts. The fluid goes into it to raise the car up and keep it there will certainly put more pressure.

Lamborghinis have a ride height adjustment system too but i believe it only lifts the nose of the car for dips and driveways, i wonder if they are as problematic as the ABC system Mercedes uses
